Virginia State Police seek clues to the identity of the killer of Divine Osborne in shooting death on I-64

 

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – The instances of gunfire on interstates in Virginia continue to be far from isolated to I-95 in Richmond.

According to Sgt. Michelle Anaya of the Virginia State Police, troopers are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred late Friday night, March 23, 2018, in the area of Interstate 64 and Jefferson Avenue in the city limits of Newport News.

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 11:26 p.m., a tan Nissan Maxima was traveling in the westbound I-64 exit lanes for Jefferson Avenue when it was fired upon by another vehicle.

 

The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 11:26 p.m., a tan Nissan Maxima was traveling in the westbound I-64 exit lanes for Jefferson Avenue when it was fired upon by another vehicle. The driver of the Nissan, Divine R. Osborne, 20, of Hampton, Va., died at the scene. His remains were transported to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Norfolk for examination and autopsy. The Nissan’s two male passengers were not injured in the incident.

At this stage of the investigation, the shooting appears to be an isolated incident. No other vehicles were struck or targeted. No one in the Nissan could provide a suspect vehicle description or license plate.

The Virginia State Police is also reaching out to the community for any witnesses driving in the area of Interstate 64 at Jefferson Avenue, prior to, or after the incident, who may have possible information. This is an active and ongoing criminal investigation being handled by the Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation’s Chesapeake Field Office.

The Virginia State Police stated that due to the fact that the incident is still ongoing, and agents are still continuing their investigation through the night, information of this incident can only be disseminated when it is found not to hinder or jeopardize the investigation or successful prosecution of the suspect(s).
