HEROIN HIGHWAY TO HELL Douglas Sutherland, of Lusby, dead of a fatal heroin overdose while in Anne Arundel County Jail – FINAL BAIL FROM JAIL FOR JUNKIE

GLEN BURNIE, MD. – Anne Arundel County Police report that on March 24, 2018, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers responded to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center located at 600 E Ordnance Road in Glen Burnie for injured/sick subject.

When officers arrived, they spoke with Detention Center staff who stated they were alerted at 11:55 a.m. by inmates that another inmate was sitting on his bed unresponsive.

Police say that the Detention Center staff immediately responded to the inmate, Douglas Edward Sutherland, 54, of 662 Grenada Lane, Lusby, Md., and began life-saving efforts.

One empty clear capsule of suspected heroin was recovered from beneath the inmate’s bed.

Police say that the fire department responded, and continued lifesaving efforts, however, were unsuccessful in resuscitating the inmate and he was pronounced deceased.  One empty clear capsule of suspected heroin was recovered from beneath the inmate’s bed. Detectives from the Heroin Task Force responded and are currently investigating.

Sutherland was arrested on four counts of traffic charges on Jan. 9, 2018 by Anne Arundel Police and with a free taxpayer provided attorney was able to have all the charges dropped on March 5, 2018.

Sutherland was cited for running a red light by Calvert Deputy B. Boreum on March 14, 2018.

A charge in Calvert District Court filed by Maryland State Trooper C. Esnes issued on Nov. 6, 2017, of carrying a concealed deadly weapon was dropped by Calvert States Attorney Laura Martin on March 14, 2018.

Sutherland entered into a plea deal with Anne Arundel County States Attorney Wes Adams on Jan. 3, 2018 for a charge of driving while suspended. THE DEAL: in return for his guilty plea and saving the prosecutor the trouble of putting on a trial, Sutherland was sentenced to ten days in jail. Probation for the conviction was due to start on March 5, 2018.

A theft charge after Sutherland’s arrest on April 28, 2017, was put on the Stet Docket in Calvert District Court by Martin on Nov. 15, 2017.

Sutherland picked up a 21-day jail term on July 25, 2014, after he pleaded guilty to theft in Calvert District Court.

Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans reported that on July 17, 2017, at 7 am, deputies responded to the Wawa located at 305 Market Square Dr, Prince Frederick for a theft of a stolen vehicle.  The vehicle was recovered in Lusby.  Douglas E Sutherland, 52, of Lusby charged with Theft: $10,000 to under $100,000.00.
