What makes a motorist who shares the road with you to be impaired by prescription drugs? Clonazepam worked for Chelsea Boyce

TRUE CRIME – Audible edition perfect for commuting.

LUSBY, MD. – Maryland State Police report that on 03/31/18 at 01:06 am, Trooper First Class Rucker and Trooper Strong stopped a vehicle on Rt. 4 and Pardoe Rd. in Lusby for traffic violations.  Chelsea L. Boyce, 29 of 4500 Ritchie Hwy, Apt. A Brooklyn, Md., was arrested for DUI.

A probable cause search revealed Clonazepam for which Boyce did not have a prescription.  Additional charges for possession of CDS were issued.  Boyce was incarcerated at the Calvert County Detention Center.

This description of Clonazepam comes from medicinenet.com: …” is an anti-anxiety medication in the benzodiazepine family, the same family that includes diazepam (Valium), alprazolam (Xanax), lorazepam (Ativan), flurazepam (Dalmane), and others. Clonazepam and other benzodiazepines act by enhancing the effects of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA is a neurotransmitter (a chemical that nerve cells use to communicate with each other) that inhibits brain activity. It is believed that excessive activity in the brain may lead to anxiety or other psychiatric disorders. Clonazepam is primarily used for treating panic disorder and preventing certain types of seizures.”

Other serious adverse reactions:

Antiepileptic medications have been associated with an increased risk of suicidal thinking and behavior. Anyone considering the use of antiepileptic drugs must balance this risk of suicide with the clinical need for the antiepileptic drug. Patients who begin antiepileptic therapy should be closely observed for clinical worsening, suicidal thoughts or unusual changes in behavior.

The most common side effects associated with clonazepam are sedation, which is reported in approximately half of the patients. Dizziness is reported in one-third of patients.

Other common side effects include:

A feeling of depression,

Loss of orientation,

A headache,

Weakness,

Unsteadiness, and

Sleep disturbance

Lack of inhibition

A drug violation was issued Boyce by Anne Arundel Police Officer Donoghue on Feb. 9, 2018, and trial is set for May 10, 2018, in Glen Burnie District Court.

Boyce is listed as the respondent in a domestic violence case in which a final protective order was issued by an Anne Arundel District Court Judge on Feb. 21, 2018.

Operating a motor vehicle has been a problematic experience for Boyce as she entered a guilty plea to driving a 2014 Chevrolet on I-68 westbound at 100 mph in a 65-mph speed zone for a citation issued by Maryland State Police TFC Vonstein on June 1, 2015. Boyce was fined $200.00.
