LANGLEY PARK, MD. – Prince George’s County Police now report that PG Homicide Unit detectives identified and charged two suspects in a fatal shooting in Adelphi that took place on March 22, 2018.

The suspects are 19-year-old Freddy Antonio Mendez-Cruz of 15th Avenue in Takoma Park and 16-year-old Christian Alvarado of 2321 4th Street #509, in Northeast DC. They’re charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 37-year-old Ruben Garcia-Ramos of Adelphi. Alvarado is charged as an adult.

 

On March 22nd, at approximately 5:45 pm, patrol officers responded to the 1900 block of Laguna Road for the report of a shooting. When they arrived on the scene, officers found the victim outside suffering from gunshot wounds. He died of his injuries several hours later.

 

The preliminary investigation reveals the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Mendez-Cruz and the victim. Mendez-Cruz and the victim were acquaintances.

 

Alvarado and Mendez-Cruz are charged with first and second-degree murder. They have confessed to their involvement. They are both in the custody of the Department of Corrections on a no-bond status.
