Southern Maryland Police Beat / Trial Looms for William Johnson III on Carjacking & Armed Robbery Charges

Nobody will likely fight over who gets to send him to the slammer for a couple of decades so he can join the mass incarceration of vicious criminals.

William Edward Johnson III charged in two armed robberies in Lexington Park and California in 2017.

LEONARDTOWN, MD. – The road to Jessup State Prison has been routed through Lexington Park for PG County resident William Edward Johnson III, 27, of 5200 Carswell Ave., Apt. 208, in Suitland, Md. After a series of chump change arrests including a bust for trying to pass phony $20 bills at a Wawa in 2015, more funny money charges in Calvert and dismissed drug dealing raps in PG,  Johnson finally graduated to the big time by allegedly committing a couple of armed robberies with an assault, and a carjacking in 2017.

On May 5, 2018, Johnson, represented by a free taxpayer-provided public defender, Johanna Cimino, stands trial facing St. Mary’s Circuit Court Grand Jury Indictments issued on Feb. 9, 2018, for armed robbery, first and second-degree assault, felony theft, felony vehicle theft and felony carjacking along with extra counts for handgun violations, as, is often proven, criminals fail to abide by handgun laws.

Johnson has been on a bad-boy, bad-boy crime spree for a few years but he really ramped up his game in 2017 with the crimes for which he will be tried in May in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.

Johnson has been on a bad-boy, bad-boy crime spree for a few years but he really ramped up his game in 2017 with the crimes for which he will be tried in May in St. Mary’s County Circuit Court.

Nobody will likely fight over who gets to send him to the slammer for a couple of decades so he can join the mass incarceration of vicious criminals. However Calvert County States Attorney Laura Martin has two of her assistants running for election to replace her as the county prosecutor, thus after St. Mary’s gets through with him, Calvert may go ahead and run up the score to add some extra years for him in prison. Johnson was indicted by the Calvert County Grand Jury with fifteen counts of possession of counterfeit money and attempted theft.

Calvert court officials must not have noticed that Johnson was spending time at the Hotel St. Mary’s as they issued a bench warrant for his arrest when he failed to appear in court on Jan. 22, 2018 in Circuit Court in Calvert County. A different free attorney provided by the taxpayers represents him in the funny money case.

Johnson was reintroduced to the Hotel Calvert in Barstow on Jan. 6, 2016 when he was picked up on a fugitive from justice warrant by Calvert Sheriff’s Deputy Craig Kontra, from the Commonwealth of Virginia and held without bond.

Johnson may have been shopping at Annapolis Mall on March 16, 2015, when he was arrested by Anne Arundel County Police Officer Vanantwerp and charged with four counts of theft and counterfeit money manufacturing and distribution to unwitting merchants. When Johnson failed to appear in court, a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. When picked up and jailed he posted bond on July 14, 2017. Hopefully, the District Court Commissioner might have had one of those counterfeit money pens that many stores and banks use to detect funny money – as Johnson posted $7,500 bond to get out of jail.

Held for trial in St. Mary’s Circuit Court on July 30, 2012, on two counts of robbery and conspiracy, Johnson decided that the prosecutors had enough evidence on him to send him away to the state penitentiary. Therefore, Johnson entered an Alford Plea, in which the accused admits things don’t look good for him. The Guilty verdict brought a cheap sentence of 18 months in the local jail in Leonardtown. Even with an easy deal on jail time and probation, Johnson, the perpetual criminal with the mind of a terminal miscreant, violated his probation.

The pending trial in Leonardtown is related to the following event: on November 4, 2017, Johnson and a cohort, allegedly assaulted and robbed the Madinah Auto Sales located on Rt. 235 in California, Md., after the owner of the establishment, requested that they leave his property. The victim was injured, and required medical treatment reported the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department.  The bozos may have tried to buy a car with a bag full of phony twenty dollar bills fresh off their desktop printer.

On November 5th, a victim reported to police that he was confronted by a black male who asked his assistance with a disabled vehicle. The victim decided to be kind to the guy and let him in his vehicle. Once in his vehicle, the suspect, identified as Johnson, produced a handgun and the game was on. Johnson ordered the motorist to stop, where he reportedly ordered the victim out of his own vehicle and took off with the man’s property and his vehicle.

With the assistance of the United States Marshall Service, Prince George’s County Police Department, Maryland State Police, Metropolitan Police Department, and the Charles County Sheriff’s Office; St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Detectives reached out and brought Johnson to justice and deposited him in the Hotel St. Mary’s.
