TOP COPS: Three LaPlata Police Officers and an LPPD Explorer Honored for Their Swift Action In Saving Life of Woman Trying to Commit Suicide
Three LPPD Officers and an LPPD Explorer Honored for Their Swift Action at Awards Banquet: In March 2017, Explorer First Class (EFC) Dylan Selvage contacted Sergeant Jason Posey, who was off-duty, about a social media post with an image of an individual who had slashed their wrist and was threatening to kill herself through the ingestion of several medications. Sgt. Posey immediately contacted Charles County Emergency Service to ensure both law enforcement and medical personnel response.
Sergeant Robert Bagley and Police Officer First Class (PFC) Tommy Johnston responded to the individual’s home and found the person sitting in a tub of water with lacerations to the wrist. Numerous pills were also located. Prior to the arrival of medical personnel, Sgt. Bagley immediately began to administer first aid to the victim.
Chief Carl Schinner noted, EFC Selvage quick actions, after viewing a “call for help” in a social media post, quickly began a chain-of-events which caused the rapid invention of both medical and psychological services. There is no doubt these officers and Explorer Selvage made a difference in the victim’s life that night.
