DFC Blaine Gaskill presented an award by Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan cited as the Hero of Great Mills High School for saving lives by confronting and ending the murder scene on March 20, 2018.

THE HERO OF GREAT MILLS HIGH SCHOOL: DFC Blaine Gaskill stopped shooter who had enough firepower to fire his father’s gun another11 times.

Jaelynn Wiley died two days after being shot in the head by Austin Rollins at Great Mills High School.

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan attended the Maryland State School Safety Summit hosted by the Maryland Center for School Safety, the Maryland State Department of Education, and the Maryland State Police.

At the summit, held on April 19, 2018, he presented an official governor’s citation to Deputy First Class Blaine Gaskill of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office who responded to the tragic March 20, 2018, shooting by student Austin Wyatt Rollins at Great Mills High School in his capacity as the school resource officer. The governor commended DFC Gaskill for his brave actions that prevented further harm to the Great Mills community.  Rollins brought his father’s gun to school and killed Jaelynn Willey and wounded Desmond Barnes. 

DFC Gaskill was also awarded the National Association of School Resource Officers National Award for Valor at the summit.

Jaelynn Willey’s family makes an announcement that she is brain-dead and they will take her off life support on March 22, 2018, at a press conference at PG shock trauma.
