Virginia State Police Beat: Enraged motorist standing in the middle of dark interstate cut off in midsentence by a tractor trailer
SUSSEX COUNTY – Apparently a Pennsylvania man didn’t believe that his act of intentionally stopping in the travel lane of an interstate highway in the wee hours of the morning to block the driver behind him might be the least bit dangerous.
After stopping the man got out of his car and walked out onto the highway when he was in the process of exhibiting his low esteem with a verbal onslaught upon the driver behind him, he was immediately hit by a northbound tractor-trailer that turned him into a hood ornament at about 70 mph.
The Virginia State Police have labeled this act of insanity to be ‘road rage’, when ‘simply stupid’ might apply.
Police say that on April 26, 2018, at approximately 2:31 AM, Virginia State troopers were called to investigate a motor vehicle accident on Interstate 95 North of the 24-mile marker.
Preliminary investigations reveal that the driver of a 2010 Honda Odyssey, and the driver of a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta, were traveling northbound on Interstate 95 when a road rage incident occurred.
The driver of the Jetta (59-year-old Caucasian Male) began to slow down in front of the Odyssey, came to a complete stop in the traffic lane and exited his vehicle to have a verbal exchange with the driver of the Odyssey.
During the verbal confrontation in the traffic lane, a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling in the northbound lanes and was unable to stop in time for the two vehicles blocking the traffic lane. The driver swerved to avoid a collision; sideswiped the Honda Odyssey, and struck the 59-year-old male driver outside of his vehicle.
The deceased male driver from Pennsylvania was killed instantly at the scene. No other drivers or passengers were injured in the accident.
Currently, police report that efforts are being made to contact next of kin and family members of the deceased. Alcohol was not a contributing factor.
