DWI HIT PARADE Mid-morning booze cruise by Roberto Mejia Lopez blew through stop sign and ended the life of his passenger

LEONARDTOWN, MD. – A Toyota pickup operated by an intoxicated Roberto Mejia-Lopez, 36, of Lexington Park, Md., blasted through a stop sign at Rt. 5 and Rt. 234 intersection just north of Leonardtown on June 30, 2018, and smashed into a 2016 Isuzu box truck, killing a passenger in the Toyota.

St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on June 30, 2018, at approximately 9:56 a.m. deputies found the crash scene spread across the intersection which includes a lane that merges from Rt. 234 into southbound Rt. 5.

The 2016 Isuzu NPR-HD box truck was traveling south on Point Lookout Road and was operated by Kyle Freeman, 24, of Clinton.

Mejia-Lopez was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital in Leonardtown, with incapacitating injuries. A passenger in the Toyota Tacoma, Moises Rodriquez, 26, of Lexington Park, was ejected from the vehicle; lifesaving efforts were performed, and Rodriquez was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say that Freeman and a 25-year-old passenger in the box truck sustained non-incapacitating injuries.

After the Sheriff’s Department crash team conducted an investigation they determined that a failure to stop at a stop sign and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision.
