THE CASE OF THE COCAINE CRUISE ON OCEAN GATEWAY:  Cruising with Ian Bonadventure Hoeckel

EASTON, MD. – Talbot County Sheriff Capt. John Bollinger reports that on July 16, 2018, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motor vehicle on Ocean Gateway near Backtown Road for moving violations.

Deputy Logan LeCompte identified the operator as Ian Bonaventure Hoeckel, 32, of 2414 Barnsley Place, Gwynn Oak, Maryland and developed probable cause to search the vehicle.

Police say that a search of the vehicle revealed cocaine and marijuana, leading to the arrest of Hoeckel. Hoeckel was charged with possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana and paraphernalia. Hoeckel was taken before a District Court Commissioner in Easton and released on his personal recognizance.

A civil citation for possession of marijuana was added to the cocaine rap on July 23, 2018.

A preliminary hearing has been set in Talbot District Court for Sept. 5, 2018. Taxpayers will be excited to learn that they will be footing the bill for his free attorney even though Hoeckel appears in advertisements as a cruise consultant with a travel agency in Calverton, Md.

 

Maryland officials reported on July 26, 2018, that the latest data compiled of drug overdoses shows that fentanyl combined with cocaine or heroin is driving the increase in overall overdoses in 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018. There has been an increase of fentanyl mixed with cocaine, which is accounting for the increase in cocaine-related deaths. Nearly two-thirds of cocaine-related deaths in 2017 also involved fentanyl.
