MURDER USA: Virginia State Police charged David A. Tobul with DUI manslaughter for killing Kaitlyn R. Taylor on I-95
SPRINGFIELD, VA. – The senseless act of driving while impaired resulted in a Toyota Camry driven by a Springfield man slamming into the rear of a Mitsubishi operated by a Maryland woman and killing her in the process. As is often the case, the DUI driver was not injured, his two passengers were injured and the woman whose vehicle he slammed into from behind, died.
Virginia State Police Spokeswoman Corinne Geller reported that at 1:16 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2018, Virginia State Police Senior Trooper K. Terry responded to a fatal two-vehicle crash in Fairfax County on Interstate 95 at the 166-mile marker.
A 2004 Toyota Camry traveling south on I-95 rear-ended a southbound 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander. The impact of the crash caused the Mitsubishi SUV to overturn and the Toyota to catch fire.
The driver of the Mitsubishi, Kaitlyn R. Taylor, 26, of Jessup, Md., died at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the Camry, David Anthony Tobul, 25, of Springfield, Va., was not injured in the crash. His two passengers, an adult male and an adult female, were both transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Sr. Trooper Terry charged Tobul with DUI-Manslaughter. The crash remains under investigation. Additional charges are pending.
According to information posted on his Facebook page, Tobul is a graduate of West Springfield High School and lives in Springfield, Va.
On Jan. 18, 2012, Tobul was ticketed for failing to pay full time and attention to his driving by Fairfax Police Officer C. J. Petrovitch. Tobul was fined $30. On April 26, 2012, he failed to stop at a stop sign when entering a highway and was fined $50 in Fairfax District Court on May 29, 2018. On Oct. 15, 2012, Tobul was charged with driving while his permit was revoked and was found guilty on Nov. 19, 2018, but was not jailed or charged a fine.
On April 4, 2016, Tobul was arrested for being drunk in public and when appearing in Fairfax District Court on May 26, 2016, he was found guilty and fined $25.
