A BABY WAS THE ONLY WITNESS

FROM CHARLES COUNTY SHERIFF:

Kenneth Everette Barnes shot the mother of his child on Gallery Place in Waldorf and then committed suicide.

UPDATE: Detectives have identified the suspect in the attempted murder on Gallery Place as Kenneth Everette Barnes, 38, of Waldorf.  On August 9 at 12:30 p.m., Barnes shot the mother of his child multiple times and fled the scene.

On August 9 at 12:30 p.m., officers responded to an apartment building in the 3000 block of Gallery Place in Waldorf for the report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found a woman in her thirties with multiple gunshot wounds. She was flown to a hospital and is in serious condition.

The woman had made a desperate attempt to escape the crazed gunman, fleeing from the apartment.

As officers canvassed the building, they discovered an adult male in the stairwell; he was deceased from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A gun was recovered beside him. It is believed he is the man who shot the woman and that they were known to each other. Detectives are in the process of positively identifying the man.

Barnes, of 2506 Timbercrest Drive, District Heights, Md., was issued a protective order by a District Court Judge in Charles County on July 25, 2018.  Two days later, court records show that the order was dismissed. On July 25, Charles County Sheriff Officer Robert Ondrish charged Barnes with assault and disorderly conduct and a court date for Oct. 23, 2018, was scheduled.
