CHESTER, MD. – What does a big and burly waterman do when confronted by a Maryland Natural Resources Police Officer who cites him for operating while impaired and without navigational lights?  In the case of Jeffrey Riter Pike, he assaulted the officer by yanking her.

That action quickly caused him to be handcuffed and removed from his boat to shore where a field sobriety test revealed he was truly too bombed to boat. His blood alcohol content rang the Boozing Bozo Meter at 0.17 which is twice the legal limit.

The vessel that Pike was operating was stopped on July 28, 2018, in the area of Kent Narrows by NRP Officer Kristen McFarland.

Jeffrey Riter Pike, 64, of148 Kirwans Landing Road, Chester, was charged by Natural Resource Police Officer Kristen McFarland with second-degree assault, obstructing and hindering a police investigation and two counts of impaired operation and possession of marijuana.

The aforementioned boozing bozo will have the opportunity to explain to the Judge why he decided to assault Officer McFarland instead of peacefully abiding by the instructions given to him. It remains to be seen that if on Nov. 1, 2018 in Queen Anne’s District Court if he will decide to smack the Judge or other court officials – or if he has a leash on his wife who reportedly put on quite a scene at the District Court Commissioner’s Office, and a new look of innocence, presumed to make him not seem guilty.  Taxpayers will be thrilled to learn that Pike was issued a Public Defender Eligibility Certificate which will allow him to have a free attorney.

Maryland Natural Resources Police officers saw his boat operating in Kirwan Creek without navigational lights shortly before 9 p.m. When they began speaking with Pike, they noticed a strong odor of alcohol.

While still on his boat during the initial contact, Pike grabbed and yanked an officer. He was handcuffed, placed on a patrol boat and taken to shore. Pike failed field sobriety tests and registered a blood alcohol content of 0.17, nearly twice the legal limit, on the Intoximeter test administered by Maryland State Police.

Pike is scheduled to appear in Queen Anne’s County District Court Nov. 1. If found guilty of all charges, he could be sentenced to two months in jail and a maximum fine of $1,550.
