COURT NEWS: Governor Larry Hogan Announces Judicial Appointments: Kelsey, McCarthy, and Curry in PG County and Devine in Charles County all to Circuit Court

Fills Vacancies in Prince George’s and Charles Counties

ANNAPOLIS, MD – Governor Larry Hogan announced the appointments of ShaRon Marie Grayson Kelsey, Jared Michael McCarthy, and Wytonja “Tonja” LaCheryl Curry to the Prince George’s Circuit Court. The governor also announced the appointment of Patrick Joseph Devine to the Charles County Circuit Court. The governor made the appointments after reviewing nominees sent by the judicial nominating commissions.

“The appointment of qualified individuals to serve across our state’s justice system is paramount to upholding our responsibilities to the people of Maryland and the rule of law,” said Governor Hogan. “I have confidence that Ms. Kelsey, Mr. McCarthy, Ms. Curry, and Mr. Devine will all be strong advocates for the law and will serve the citizens of Maryland admirably.”

ShaRon Kelsey most recently had a solo general practice focused on workers’ compensation, personal injury, medical malpractice, uncontested divorce and adoptions, bankruptcy, DWI/DUI, estate planning and real estate settlements. Since 2011 she has worked as the sole contract attorney for the Prince George’s County Department of Social Services, accepting child abuse and neglect administrative appeals. Ms. Kelsey holds a B.S. in Business Administration and Banking and Financial Management from the University of Maryland and received her J.D. from the Georgetown University Law Center.

Prior to this appointment, Jared McCarthy was the County Attorney for the Prince George’s County Office of Law. In this position, he was involved in managing the government operations attorneys who represent the county agencies and departments in all contested labor and personnel matters, EEOC charges, police and sheriff trial boards, and other employment issues. He received his B.A. from Salisbury State University and received his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Tonja Curry is a litigator specializing in personal injury actions involving premises liability and motor vehicle tort claims. Prior to this position, she worked as an associate with David L. Hendricks & Associates and Timothy S. Smith & Associates where she handled personal injury actions involving premises liability and motor vehicle tort claims. She served as a Clerk to Judge Richard H. Sothoron, Jr., at the Circuit Court for Prince George’s County from 1998-1999. Ms. Curry holds a B.A. from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and received her J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law.

Patrick Devine has worked as a partner with the Prince George’s County-based firm of Sasscer, Clagett & Bucher. He specializes in criminal defense, personal injury, and family law and has also served as a volunteer lawyer with the Family Law Pro-Bono clinic at the Charles County Courthouse since 2002. Prior to joining his current firm, Mr. Devine was a partner at Devine & Fanning, P.A. Mr. Devine holds a B.A. from West Virginia Wesleyan College and received his J.D. from the Catholic University of America, Columbus School of Law.
