DWI HIT PARADE: Virginia State Police charged Calvin E. Berryhill Jr with DUI in Christmas Eve crash that killed Trevonne Avant Stith

CAPE CHARLES, VA. – The Christmas Drinking, Drugging, Driving and Dying Season racked up another perpetrator who took his party on the road and caused the death of one of his passengers.

Police say that on December 24, 2018 at approximately 2:45 AM, State Police was called upon to investigate a single vehicle accident which had resulted in a fatality. The accident occurred at the 23000 block of Lankford Highway, south of Route 642 (Parsons Circle), in the Cape Charles area of the Eastern Shore.

Through the Troopers investigation, it was determined that a 2003 Saturn VUE, driven by Calvin E. Berrryhill Jr., was traveling northbound on Lankford Highway when the vehicle ran off the roadway, overturned and struck several trees.

Virginia State Police say that a seventeen-year-old juvenile passenger later identified as Trevonne Avant Stith was confirmed deceased on scene. Three other juvenile passengers and one other adult female passenger were also in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

After the accident, the three juveniles were able to escape the vehicle and run to a nearby residence to get help. All three juveniles were later taken by rescue to CHKD with non-life-threatening injuries. The adult female passenger, mother of the deceased, Tracy Shavonn Stith, was taken by rescue to Norfolk Sentara Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver, Calvin E. Berryhill Jr., 40 YOA, of Exmore, was arrested for driving under the influence, manslaughter, and misdemeanor endangerment/neglect. 

DECEASED: Trevonne A. Stith, 17 YOA, of the 22000 block of Banks Road, Cape Charles, Virginia.
