Alhaji Bah Sentenced to 28 Years in Prison for Conspiracy to Commit Murder

Prosecutors and Police Piece Together Evidence to Crack Murder Conspiracy

UPPER MARLBORO, MD – A Prince George’s County judge sentenced Alhaji Bah, age 25, of Bowie, a total sentence of 80, suspending all but 28 years, in prison for conspiracy to commit the murder of James Puryear, Jr., in June 2018.

Upon release, Bah will be required to be on five years of supervised probation and is ordered to have no contact with the victim’s family.

On June 26, 2018, Prince George’s County police officers responded to 8715 Binghampton Place in Upper Marlboro in reference to multiple 911 calls for reported gunshots in the area. Upon arrival, officers located Puryear, 27, lying in the grass suffering from 14 gunshot wounds. In addition, he also had multiple lacerations attributable to blunt force trauma. Puryear was pronounced dead on the scene by emergency medical personnel.

Police were able to establish Bah as a person of interest soon after the murder. When asked about any possible involvement, Bah quickly distanced himself. However, forensics, including finger prints, DNA and cell phone information, placed him at the location of the shooting at the time 911 calls were being made.

In addition, police learned that an associate of Bah was shot the day before. Police believed that was Bah’s motive in this case. Further investigation revealed that Bah lured Puryear to the location of the shooting under false pretenses.

“I want to thank the Howard County police for working together with Prince George’s County detectives, and the prosecutors in this case for their commitment to holding Mr. Bah accountable,” said Prince George’s State’s Attorney Braveboy. “I also commend Mr. Puryear’s family for staying the course through this process of seeking justice for your loved one.”

On June 26, 2018, at about 9:50 pm, patrol officers were called to the 8000 block of Binghampton Place in Upper Marlboro for the report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers found Puryear suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

James Alexander Puryear Jr. was murdered by Alhaji Bah, say police.

The preliminary investigation reveals the fatal shooting stemmed from a dispute between the suspect and victim. The suspect and victim were acquaintances, say police who lived in the same neighborhood.

Bah is charged by Detective K. Smith with first- and second-degree murder and related charges along with handgun charges, reckless endangerment, use of handgun in the commissioner of a felony and assault. He is in the custody of the PG County Jail and has a preliminary hearing set for Jan. 18, 2019.

Bah was charged by PG Police Officer E. Wilson with possession of opioid drugs without a prescription on March 31, 2018, and removing the label from a prescription. PG County States Attorney Angela Alsobrooks put both charges on the Stet Docket on Aug. 9, 2018, while at the same time she was campaigning for a new elected job.

When charged with drug dealing, theft and robbery, Bah got another deal from Angela Alsobrooks when he was allowed to plea to theft and the other charges were dropped on March 11, 2015. Restitution in the amount of $500 was ordered to be paid to Josh Heneghan. Bah was sentenced to prison for five years which was promptly suspended except for one day and credit of time served of one day was ordered as part of the deal. Then the real problem for this bozo was being placed on supervised probation for two years. On June 12, 2015, a violation of his probation was reported to the court. On Sept. 11, 2015, Bah admitted he violated the terms of his probation. As of Dec. 7, 2016, the court records reflect he had not yet paid the restitution to the victim.  The trial for the violation of probation was finally set for Oct. 17, 2017 and delayed once more to Jan. 29, 2018. On Feb. 16, 2018, PG County Circuit Court Judge Cotton ordered that the guilty finding and sentence from March 11, 2015 is “hereby stricken” and the violation was terminated. Another Red-Letter day for the Alice in Wonderland Maryland Judiciary.

Interfering with the immediate rush to paint Puryear as a victim stands his criminal record.

On March 15, 2012, Grand Jury Indictments charging Puryear with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, robbery, theft, and conspiracy ended the following results at trial: Guilty for robbery, felony assault, second-degree assault, and two counts of conspiracy. SENTENCE: Count 3 – twenty-five years suspend all but eight years. Count 4 – sentenced to prison for twenty years and all but eight years suspended. Other counts were merged, credit was given for 298 days of time served and commitment to prison began on Aug. 8, 2011. In 2016, a panel of judges reconsidered and moderated his sentence slightly providing him with probation which allowed him to be in the path of a bullet in 2018.
