FLEEING FELON: Westmoreland, King George deputies charged Nepolean Antwan Sharpe with slew of traffic charges, attempting to murder law officer, passing stopped school bus

Nepolean A. Sharpe, 39, has been charged with one count each of Reckless Driving, passing stopped school bus, mask, car theft, attempted murder Feb. 25, 2019 Westmoreland Sheriff.

COLONIAL BEACH, VA. – A King George man took several police vehicles for a ride on the wild side resulting in allegedly dangerous acts including passing a school bus and earning him charges of attempting to kill a police officer. In the process of leading a platoon of squad cars on his wild chase, he managed to cover both sides of the Potomac River and faces court action in both Maryland and Virginia.

Westmoreland Sheriff reports that on Friday, February 22, 2019 at approximately 3:40PM, sheriff’s office deputies engaged in a vehicle pursuit as it entered Westmoreland County from King George County. The pursuit was initiated by King George County Sheriff’s Office as the result of a stolen vehicle out of Stafford County.  

The pursuit wound into the Colonial Beach area and ended in the 4200 block of Leedstown Road when the subject fled on foot from the vehicle and was immediately arrested. Sharpe formerly resided at 4814 Leedstown Road near Colonial Beach, Va.

Twenty Maryland traffic charges filed against Sharpe in connection with the wild chase described the vehicle as 2004 GMC Sierra pickup truck. Sharpe managed to gain traffic citations in Maryland in his great motor adventure across the Gov. Nice Bridge, as Maryland Transportation Authority Police Officer Jean Philius.

Nepolean A. Sharpe, 39, of 9382 Windsor Drive, King George, Va., has been charged by Deputy D. W. Jackson with:

  • Reckless Driving – Fail to Stop for School Bus with Flashing Lights,
  • Driving Suspended,
  • Wearing Mask to Conceal Identity,
  • Grand Larceny of Vehicle,
  • Assault/Battery on Law Enforcement Officer
  • Attempted Capital Murder of Law Enforcement Officer.

Sharpe is being held with No Bond in Rappahannock Regional Jail. His next court appearance is scheduled for March 5, 2019 in Westmoreland County General District Court.

The Maryland Transit Authority and the Virginia State Police assisted.

Charges of felony assault on a police officer were placed against Sharpe on May 31, 2014 in Westmoreland County. The charges were dismissed in District Court on Sept. 23, 2014.

Sharpe was charged by King George County Sheriff Sgt. T. W. Lyons on Feb. 25, 2019 with all the identical charges he racked up in Westmoreland County as the pursuit began in King George.  Sharpe will be represented by a public defender, provided courtesy of the taxpayers of Virginia.

Sharpe is a regular patron in recent years of the Gov. Harry W. Nice Bridge that crosses from Virginia to Maryland. When charged on June 25, 2018, with second degree assault by Charles County Sheriff’s Officer Matt O’Shields he was brought to court on the decision of Charles County States Attorney Anthony Covington. In District Court in LaPlata on Aug. 10, 2018, Sharpe was acquitted of the charge.  A protective order against Sharpe was issued by a Charles County District Court Judge on July 3, 2018.
