DELAWARE POLICE BEAT: Justin Shifflett didn’t make the troopers track him down to his lair; now jailed after surrendering for allegedly choking and punching his wife in the face

That isn’t really the way that they were introduced but it could have gone down like given the description of the events of the evening of February 26, 2019 – just twelve days after Valentine’s Day.

The Delaware State Police say that they have arrested the suspect who was wanted in connection with a domestic related assault and strangulation.

The incident occurred on February 26, 2019 at approximately 8:36 p.m., when troopers responded to Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, for a report of a verbal domestic that turned physical. It was reported that the victim was assaulted by her husband, Justin M. Shifflett, 47 of Millsboro when he grabbed her throat and struck her face. The victim attempted to call 9-1-1 but the suspect smacked the phone out her hand to keep her from calling. The suspect then took her vehicle and fled from the residence. The 48-year-old-victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and refused treatment.

The Delaware State Police reported that on March 5, 2019, Shifflett turned himself in at Troop 4 and was charged with the following:

  • Strangulation
  • Assault Third Degree
  • Malicious Interference with Emergency Communications

Police say that he was arraigned before the Justice of the Peace Court and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on $16,200.00 cash only bond.
