BALTIMORE COUNTY POLICE BEAT: Uber driver Joshua Robinson charged with rape of customer; driving record includes DWI and speeding; alleged rape is new on his resume
TIMONIUM, MD. – A family looking for a missing daughter used her phone app to track her location and discovered she was being raped by a man who later was charged by police.
Baltimore County Police have charged Joshua Jamaal Robinson, 31, (DOB 09/28/1987) of 203 River Way Court, Owings Mills, Md., with second-degree rape, third-degree sex offense, fourth-degree sex offense, and two counts of second-degree assault.
This investigation revealed just after 10:30 p.m. on June 1, 2019, someone contacted Uber on behalf of the victim in order to take the 25-year-old female home. When the victim did not make it home, family members started to worry and used a phone app to determine the victim’s location. Her location was shown to be the area of Jenifer Road and W. Timonium Road.
Police say that the victim’s father went to the area where he saw a parked car. He walked up to the car and eventually saw his daughter and the suspect in the back seat of the vehicle. The suspect opened the car door and the victim’s father saw the victim lying on the backseat and was visibly upset. After arguing with the victim’s father, the suspect got into the driver’s seat and drove off. As the suspect was leaving, he threw the victim’s purse out of the car, striking the victim’s father in the face.
Baltimore County detectives conducted an investigation and were able to identify the Uber driver as Joshua Robinson. The suspect was arrested by Detective S. Kilpatrick on June 6, 2019, and is currently being held at the Baltimore County Department of Corrections on denied bond status.
Robinson has been deemed eligible for a taxpayer-provided free attorney.
Robinson entered a plea deal with a statement of facts with the Carroll County States Attorney on June 18, 2013, to a charge of DWI and driving at the speed of 81 mph in a 55-speed zone. THE DEAL: No time and a fine of just $50 with a verdict of Probation Before Judgement. The DWI charged ended with zero time and a fine of $150.00. Three other DUI and negligent driving charges were dropped as part of the deal. Robinson was arrested on these charges by Maryland Trooper Joseph Dehoff and Trooper John Fair, of the Westminster Barrack on Feb. 21, 2013.
Evidently Uber doesn’t bother to examine the driving records of drivers for speeding and DWI convictions.
