DIRTBAG ROUNDUP: Citizen came to aid of robbery victim at Safeway gas pumps as PG County criminal robbed him at gunpoint; serial robber Dante Tyler caught by Md. Transportation Authority Officer Y. Anthony
PRINCE FREDERICK, MD. – A gunman from the crime town of Prince Georges County, Md., and a Helion of the town of Hyattsville, has been charged with the armed robbery of a Calvert County victim who was in the process of gassing up his vehicle at the Safeway in Prince Frederick on June 5, 2019 at 5:20 am.
Ex-con Dante Tyler is 6’5″ and armed with a gun assaulted motorist gassing up at the Safeway pumps at 5 am…a citizen came to the victim’s aid and the bandit fled…
Calvert Sheriff Capt. Dave Payne reports that deputies of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Safeway gas pumps on West Dares Beach Road for the report of an armed robbery and learned that the victim was approached by the suspect, now identified as Dante D’Anjael Tyler. Tyler then assaulted the victim and tried to place handcuffs on the injured man.
Police say that the handcuffing of the man was thwarted by a brave Calvert County citizen who confronted the man and threatened to call the police. The victim was robbed of his wallet and the suspect fled in a vehicle.
Detectives were able to identify the vehicle involved due to surveillance cameras and put out an alert that triggered the capture of the criminal as he crossed the Chesapeake Bay Bridge about 1:20 am the next day. Tyler must have been busy as police say there was a flurry of similar robberies around the region.
Tyler was captured by Maryland Transportation Authority Officer Y. Anthony and charged with seven counts of possession of a loaded gun, ammunition, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon – a felony charge which will be coming up in Queen Anne’s Circuit Court. Tyler was ordered held without bond in Queen Anne’s County Jail on June 7, 2019.
Officer Anthony caught up with Tyler as he traveled eastbound on US. Rt. 50 at Exit 39B. Tyler was operating a Ford with Maryland plates 5DS4856.
In his press release, Calvert Sheriff Capt. Payne never mentioned Transportation Authority Officer Anthony as the arresting officer. Taking an armed wanted fugitive and ex-con into custody was certainly worthy of recognition, but police and Sheriff Department rivalries and glory seeking know no bounds. The citizen in Prince Frederick who scared off the armed man also received no recognition by name.
The Maryland Transportation Authority often releases feel-good public relations press releases among many traffic safety and recognition of heroism on the part of officers but didn’t bother to issue one on the arrest of Tyler. The agency managed to issue two arrest press releases in May of 2019, both of them about officers arresting motorists with guns. Perhaps at the end of the current month, the agency PIO might get around to issuing one about the actions of Officer Anthony.
Dante D’Anjael Tyler of 7403 Belle Haven Court, Hyattsville, Maryland is in custody in Queen Anne’s County Jail and faces numerous charges coming from Calvert County, to include Armed Robbery, Assault in the First Degree, and various felony handgun possession charges.
Tyler was charged via criminal information by the Queen Anne’s County States Attorney on June 7, 2019 on charges of drug possession, with a preliminary hearing set for July 10, 2019.
A warrant for Tyler was issued in Prince Georges County on June 3, 2019, for the theft of a motor vehicle.
Tyler was convicted of felony burglary in the District of Columbia in 1985 and of robbery in the District in 1990. Tyler also uses an alias common to inmates that add an Islamic name on the end of their last names. In this case, Dante Tyler began using the name Dante Tyler-El. His new affiliation with Allah didn’t keep him from committing crimes.
