PHILIDELPHIA, PA. – The cokeheads of the Philly region are going to be paying more for their snorting at the beach this weekend when they find out their fun lines of coke will cost more due to the laws of supply and demand.

Federal authorities have seized approximately 16.5 TONS of cocaine from eight containers in a large container ship currently docked at the Packer Marine Terminal in Philadelphia. The US. Attorney’s office reports that this is the largest drug seizure in the history of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

“This is one of the largest drug seizures in United States history. This amount of cocaine could kill millions – MILLIONS – of people. My Office is committed to keeping our borders secure and streets safe from deadly narcotics.” – U.S. Attorney William McSwain of Eastern District of Pennsylvania.

Members of the ship’s crew have been arrested and federally charged. The drugs were intercepted from the MSC Gayane, due to a tip that the drugs were on the ship which was between Chile and Europe on its itinerary.

Acting Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection John Sanders tweeted: “Very proud of the @CBP officers involved in this historic seizure of more than $1B worth of cocaine. Authorities have made 2 arrests and continue to process the seized cocaine.”
