James Michael Bonds Jr, 47, of 21280 Lexwood Court, Apt. 4B, Lexington Park, Md.- FTA/Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving While Impaired by Alcohol, and Escape 2nd Degree by Dep. Baker, July 3, 2019. Court records show that Bonds was held without bond on July 8, 2019 until his hearing set for Aug. 6, 2019 in St. Mary’s District Court. (The charge of escape doesn’t mean Bonds escaped from jail, but that he failed to return to jail after being released for work.)

  • James Michael Bonds Jr., Darrested on May 18, 2018, at 1:01 am by St. Mary’s Sheriff Deputy Diane Hersh for DWI, driving a vehicle not equipped with an ignition interlock, and a dozen other related traffic and impaired driving charges when he operated a 2005 GMC Jimmy on Md. Rt. 246 at N. Shangri-La Drive in Lexington Park, Md.  Bonds failed to appear in court to answer these charges and on June 27, 2019, he was ordered held in the St. Mary’s Jail without bond.
  • James Michael Bonds Jr. entered a guilty plea on Sept. 4, 2015, to the charge of driving a vehicle not equipped with ignition interlock placed against him by then-Deputy Matthew Rogers on July 2, 2015. (Deputy Rogers was later terminated for allowing a drunk correctional officer to drive a police vehicle while he was in the vehicle, and also drunk, after a night of bar hopping and they crashed into the Dunkin Donuts in Easton, Md., while on a training mission to learn proper protocol for police escorts at funeral details.) A plea deal was made with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, and taxpayer-provided free attorneys Johanna Cimino and Matthew Connell.  THE DEAL: one year in jail with all of the jail time suspended except for one month.  New charges of DWI were dropped by Fritz and work release was allowed. ZERO fine. The terms of probation were violated in 2018 and the case is currently pending.
  • An indictment for assault in 2013 ended in a plea deal with a three year suspended sentence and a sex offense charge was dropped.
  • James Michael Bonds (DOB 05/20/1972) was arrested for DWI by Maryland Trooper S. Johns on Aug. 1, 2003, as he operated a 1999 Chevy on Rt. 4 at German Chapel Road in Calvert County. In a plea deal with Calvert States Attorney Laura Martin, Bonds entered a guilty plea to DWI. THE DEAL: 90 days in jail with 83 days suspended and a fine of $245.00.  On March 9, 2005, a bench warrant for the arrest of Bonds was issued by a Judge for violation of probation.

Alexander Leah Murphy, 24, of 23576 Mount Chance Court, Clements, Md., and also is occasionally a resident of Bluffton, South Carolina, was arrested by Deputy Edward Vogt on May 28, 2019, Three counts of Assault 1st and 2nd Degree. Murphy was determined to be eligible for a free attorney but evidently decided to skip that route and hired two well-known barristers from up north: Joe Vallario III, of Suitland, Md., and Hammad Matin of LaPlata, Md., as three of the charges are felonies which could result in significant prison time. Between the two, they will likely send States Attorney Rick Fritz cowering under his desk. A hearing has been set in St. Mary’s District Court on July 23, 2019.

•          The following comment was posted on Alex Murphy’s Facebook page: “The truth will always come out in the end. You can tell the truth 100 times and it’ll always be the same, you tell a lie 100 times it’ll be 100 different ways.”

Alexander Leah Murphy (DOB 02/25/1995) was indicted by the Grand Jury of the Circuit Court of St. Mary’s County on July 11, 2012 for five counts of harassment based on race, religious belief, trespass, affray, and first and second-degree assault.  On Oct. 9, 2012, States Attorney Richard Fritz, after convincing the Grand Jury to issue the indictments, decided not to take the case to trial and dropped all the charges.
