MURDER USA: Karen Isaac Arrested After Gaithersburg Police Officer Mary Liddi Intervened in Murder/Suicide Attempt
SHADY GROVE, MD. – When a woman who claimed that she wanted to save others from taking financial responsibility for her disabled adult daughter attempted to drown her and then kill herself by plunging into a hotel and shopping complex pond, the woman got cold feet after she plunged into the pond after tossing in her daughter.
On July 31, Gaithersburg police say that officers observed & rescued 2 females struggling to stay afloat in the Washingtonian Rio Lakefront.
Detectives from the Gaithersburg Police – Investigations Section have arrested 62-year-old, Karen Louisa Isaac of 608 Coral Reef Drive in Gaithersburg, Md., for attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, and reckless endangerment.
On July 31, 2019, at 2:21 a.m., Gaithersburg Police Officer Mary Liddi was on foot patrol at the Lakefront at Washingtonian Rio, located at 9811 Washingtonian Boulevard, when she heard what sounded like gurgling and splashing in the water. She checked the area and observed two females in the water struggling to stay afloat.
Officer Liddi removed her police equipment, jumped into water that is approximately eight feet deep, and swam towards both women, pulling them towards the embankment.
Officer Liddi immediately radioed for officer assistance and requested Fire and Rescue. With assistance from additional officers, both women were pulled out of the water and onto the embankment.
Investigation revealed that one of the females, Karen Louisa Isaac, was distraught and had attempted to kill herself and her 25-year-old daughter, who suffers from severe medical issues. Both women are unable to swim.
Isaac and her daughter were transported to an area hospital for evaluations. The daughter is stable at this time and Isaac was transported to the Central Processing Unit. No bond information is available at this time.
Police report that without immediate action by Officer Liddi and responding officers, the outcome achieved during this incident could have been very different.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Aug. 30, 2019, in District Court for Montgomery County. Court records reflect that Isaac is being held in the Montgomery County Jail.
