ELKTON, MD – After unleashing an assault on a manager and damaging property inside a food warehouse facility a Delaware man fled the scene, promising to return and kill everyone, say police.

Maryland State Police arrested a Delaware man on Aug. 23, 2019, for an alleged assault and making threats against a workplace in Cecil County.

The accused is identified as Brian Knight, 26, of Newark, Delaware. Knight is charged with the threat of mass violence, second-degree assault and malicious destruction of property. Knight was arrested without incident and is awaiting an appearance before the court commissioner.

Police say that on Aug. 22, 2019, at approximately 3:00 p.m., troopers at the North East barrack received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at Burris Logistics, a food distribution warehouse on Fletchwood Road in Elkton. Although there is no known threat to Maryland, State Police remind Marylanders of the important role they have in helping to keep our state safe by reporting to police suspicious situations or circumstances that could be related to crime or possible acts of violence or terrorism.

Police resources work around the clock to keep our state safe and are standing by to act on information about suspicious circumstances.  Citizens are reminded to stay vigilant and avoid the tendency to ignore what could be information vital to law enforcement efforts to prevent a crime or terrorist act.

In 2017, Burris Logistics lost a major contract with the grocery chain The Fresh Market and as a result laid off hundreds of employees, including some at the Elkton plant and about 50 staff in New Castle, Delaware.
