MECHANICSVILLE, MD – Maryland State Police are investigating a crash that killed one person and injured three others on Nov. 14, 2019, in St. Mary’s County, when a motorist who was observed shortly before the crash at a nearby Wawa as being “out of it”, crossed the centerline and hit a pickup which was northbound on Rt. 5. That driver is dead and scored plea bargains from prosecutors in three counties on prior DWI-drugged driving charges.

Around 5 p.m. on Nov. 14th, troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack responded to the area of Point Lookout Road (MD Route 5) north of Harper’s Corner Road in Mechanicsville, Maryland, on a report of a two-vehicle crash.

According to a preliminary investigation, a woman driving a Hyundai Sonata southbound on Rt. 5 crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Ford F-150 pick-up truck that was traveling north at the time of the crash.

Police say that the driver of the Hyundai Sonata Julie Ann Blew, 49, of unknown address, was declared deceased at the scene of the crash.  Her body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy.

Two of the occupants of the pick-up truck, a 15-year-old female, who police say was the operator of the truck with a learner’s permit, and a 40-year-old male, her father, were transported by ambulance to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment of their injuries. A third occupant of the truck, a 13-year-old male, was flown by a Maryland State Police helicopter to Children’s National Medical Center for treatment of his injuries.

Point Lookout Road was closed for about four hours in the area of the crash.  The crash remains under investigation.

Julie Ann Blew’s most recent address was at 2456 Pimlico Court in Waldorf, Md., when she was charged on Aug. 14, 2009, by Maryland State Trooper Ashley Sabock with driving her 2009 Sonata and tailgating another vehicle while southbound on Rt. 5 at Rt. 488 in Charles County. Blew failed to pay that fine and her license was suspended on Sept. 19, 2019.

A week before she killed herself, Julie Ann Blew entered a guilty plea to negligent driving in Prince George’s County District Court on Nov. 8, 2019, and was fined $24.50. With Largo attorney, Bradley T. Warby representing her in the plea deal with Prince George’s County States Attorney Aisha Braveboy, a charge of driving while under the influence of drugs was dumped. If Braveboy had opted to demand treatment for her drug addiction she might still be in treatment and not laying on a slab at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner or her three victims being in hospitals.

Julie Ann Blew got a plea deal from Charles County States Attorney Tony Covington on March 29, 2018, for driving while suspended and failing to attend Driver Improvement Program (an option for weak-kneed prosecutors to use to avoid doing what they should do and send offenders either for drug treatment or to the slammer). THE DEAL: A verdict of Probation Before Judgement and two years of unsupervised probation. No time, no fine. Attorney Robert Castro, of Waldorf, the guy with the commercials that preach that people do not have free will, was her mouthpiece in the deal with Covington.

Julie Ann Blew was charged by Maryland Trooper Bauer on March 26, 2017 as she operated a 2015 Ford on Md. Rt. 235 at MacArthur Blvd, at California, Md., with driving while impaired by drugs. In a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, Blew entered a guilty plea. THE DEAL: Blew was sentenced to 180 days in the St. Mary’s County Jail with all but 30 days suspended, with two years of supervised probation. Court records show that Blew blew her probation on June 19, 2019.

Julie Ann Blew was arrested for DWI-Drugs by Maryland Trooper S. Ditoto on Sept. 16, 2016, as she operated a 2015 Ford on Md. Rt. 235, south of Rt. 5, not far from where she eventually died. In a plea deal with St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz and her attorney Daniel A. M. Slade, she entered a guilty plea on March 10, 2017. THE DEAL: Blew was given a verdict of Probation Before Judgement and 30 days in the slammer, with ALL of the jail time suspended and a fine of $200.00.

  1. Charles and Prince George’s county…shame shame shame. More shame to Maryland legislatures, as a Maryland resident for these ridiculous DUI/DWI laws, you should all hide your heads in shame.
