MURDER USA: Customer of Denny’s shot and killed during armed robbery Christmas night

Ryan Thomas Walker, (DOB 05/01/1997), of 43491 Interval Street, Chantilly, Va., was arrested as a Fugitive from Justice, on Dec. 29, 2019 and taken to Calvert District Court to face extradition to Virginia on murder charges for the Dec. 26, 2019 homicide and robbery that took place at the Manassas Denny’s Restaurant.  On Dec. 30, 2019, Walker voluntarily waived extradition to Virginia.

Ryan Thomas Walker was charged by criminal information by the Calvert States Attorney on Sept. 1, 2012 and an arrest warrant was issued on Oct. 3, 2016. Walker entered a guilty plea in Calvert District Court on June 1, 2018 with the Calvert States Attorney for a charge of providing a false identity to avoid prosecution. THE DEAL: In return for the guilty plea, Walker was sentenced to 60 days in jail with all but two days suspended.

Murder Investigation *ADDITIONAL ARREST – Prince William County Police report that on December 29, 2019, members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Ryan Thomas WALKER, who was sought in connection to the murder of Yusuf OZGUR and the malicious wounding of a second man that occurred at the Denny’s located at 8201 Sudley Rd in Manassas (20109) on December 26.

This suspect resides in the Chantilly area of Fairfax County and was located at the home of an acquaintance in Chesapeake Beach, MD where he was arrested without incident.

The first suspect, Jordan ANDERSON, was located by members of the Prince William County Special Investigations Bureau and ATF following a vehicle stop in the Newington section of Fairfax County. A search warrant was subsequently conducted on ANDERSON’s vehicle and his residence in Manassas where additional evidence was recovered.

The Prince William County Police Department stated that they wanted to acknowledge and thank those who submitted tips in this case which helped confirm the identity of the suspects involved.

This investigation was tirelessly worked with assistance from the Virginia State Police and our Federal partners from the FBI and ATF who offered resources including technical and forensic support and the U.S. Marshals who located and apprehended the WALKER suspect. Detectives and our law enforcement partners are appreciative of the overwhelming support from our community in this case which enabled us to identify and arrest the suspects responsible for the murder of Yusuf OZGUR and the malicious wounding of another victim who is recovering from his injuries sustained during the incident.

MANASSAS, VA. – Prince William County Police report that one of two people shot by armed robbers on Christmas night has died.

UPDATE:
On December 26 at 2:25 AM, officers responded to the Denny’s located at 8201 Sudley Road in Manassas (20109) to investigate an armed robbery. The investigation revealed that two armed suspects entered the Denny’s where one of the men brandished a handgun while the second suspect was armed with a baton.

Prince William Police report that the men ordered the patrons of the restaurant and employees to the ground while demanding their cell phones and wallets. The men further demanded money from the business. As the suspects were leaving, the suspect armed with a handgun shot a 34-year-old man who was being cooperative while sitting on the ground as initially demanded.

The suspects also encountered a second male victim, who was walking into the Denny’s and unknowingly held the door for the suspects as they exited. The suspect armed with the baton struck the victim in the head then the second suspect shot the victim. The suspects then fled on foot. Officers, including a police K-9, and troopers from the Virginia State Police searched for the suspects who were not located. Officers rendered first-aid to the victims until rescue personnel arrived on scene.

Both victims were transported to area hospitals where the second victim, identified as Yusuf OZGUR, 56, of Manassas, died as a result of his injuries. Mr. OZGUR worked for a food delivery service and was at the Denny’s to pick up a to-go order.

The first victim, who was dining at the establishment with other parties, was treated for serious injuries and is expected to survive. There was a total of 23 persons at the restaurant during the incident, including employees and patrons. No money or property was taken from the business. 

In partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, a $10,000 reward has been offered for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individuals in connection to this incident. More information will be released when available. The investigation continues.

Prince William Police say that Detectives have confirmed one of the victims shot during the early morning robbery at the Denny’s on Sudley Rd in Manassas has died. Homicide detectives are actively investigating the incident at this time. The other victim shot during the incident remains hospitalized.

On December 26, 2019, at 2:25 AM, Prince William Police report that officers responded to the Denny’s located at 8201 Sudley Road in Manassas to investigate an armed robbery.

The preliminary investigation revealed that two armed black males in their late teens or early twenties entered the business and began demanding property from customers and employees.

 During the encounter, two adult male customers were shot before the suspects fled. Officers arrived and located the gunshot wound victims and provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived. Both victims were transported to an area hospital.

 Police K-9 searched for the suspects who were not located.

Suspect Descriptions:

  • Two black males, late teens or early 20s, 5’10”-6’0”, approx. 180lbs
  • Last seen wearing all black or dark-colored clothing
