MURDER USA: Two guys play with a gun in kitchen; the day turned deadly when the gun fired; one guy is dead; Brian Lee Chaney now faces second-degree murder charges
PARK HALL, MD. – A new year, a new murder but this one isn’t in Baltimore City or PG County, but in sleepy old St. Mary’s County where most drive-by shootings, gang fights in the parking lot of the IHOP and murders take place in Lexington Park, the crime town — this one took place in the countryside near St. Mary’s College of Maryland.
St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on January 3, 2020, at approximately 12:56 p.m. deputies from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to the reported shooting in a mobile home park next to Cook’s Liquors on Rt. 5 in Park Hall, Md.
Deputies arrived on scene and located the victim, later identified as Jordan Lee Sullivan, 24, of Park Hall, inside a residence suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division and Crime Lab Technicians responded to the scene and continued the investigation.
St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that a preliminary investigation determined Sullivan was at a residence in Park Hall with an acquaintance later identified as Brian Lee Chaney, 18, (DOB 05/29/2001) of 18414 Point Lookout Road, Apt. T2, Park Hall, Md.
Police say that Chaney and Sullivan were in the kitchen when Chaney began to manipulate a firearm, which discharged a round striking Sullivan in the chest.
Chaney allegedly contacted 911 and began lifesaving measures until the arrival of emergency personnel. Sullivan was transported to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Chaney was arrested by Deputy Taylore Nauman and charged with the following:
- Felony Murder Second Degree
- Felony Manslaughter
Chaney is currently incarcerated at the St. Mary’s County Jail awaiting an appearance before the District Court Commissioner and has been determined to be eligible for a free attorney paid for by the taxpayers of Maryland.
Like many cases of Redneck Roulette, Gunplay in the Kitchen and other games played with firearms, when there is one loser who ends up dead – there are no winners.
Chaney’s record, if any, as a juvenile is unknown, but he has been busy since achieving status as an adult, when he was charged with two counts of theft on Sept. 14, 2019.
