MURDER USA: Killer Kane gave cops the raspberry for his arrest photo when booked for the manslaughter of Judith Beglin in speed demon massacre

OXFORD, MD. – The long-awaited charges of manslaughter for a Baltimore area drug figure finally culminated in his arrest on indictments brought in Talbot County Circuit Court by the Grand Jury.

Talbot Sheriff Joe Gamble reports that on January 29, 2020, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested Dante Marquis Kane, 18, (DOB 01/15/2001) of 13 Second Ave. of Brooklyn, Md.

 A criminal indictment was issued by a Grand Jury in Talbot County on January 13, 2020, charging Kane with negligent manslaughter by a motor vehicle and causing death by negligent operation of a motor vehicle, stemming from a fatal traffic accident investigation in Oxford, Md., on July 1, 2019.

Kane was stopped by police in Howard County, Md., for unrelated traffic violations and turned over to Talbot County Deputies.

On July 1, 2019, at approximately 6:13 p.m., Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office responded to Oxford Road and Bonfield Avenue to assist the Oxford Police Department with a serious motor vehicle collision involving a pedestrian. 

Due to the nature and seriousness of the crash, Chief Maxwell of the Oxford Police Department requested that the case be investigated by the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office, Crash Reconstruction Unit.

After several months-long investigations, Deputies were able to determine that Kane was operating a 2005 Dodge Neon, traveling south on Oxford Road towards the Town of Oxford.  At this time Kane was operating his motor vehicle at a speed well above the posted speed limit of 50 mph according to witnesses.  Also, according to witnesses, Kane continued driving well above the speed limit as he approached the Town of Oxford, where the speed limit lowers to 40mph and then to 25mph.  

Edith Beglin, 71 of Oxford, Md., was attempting to cross Oxford Road just south of the intersection of Bonfield Avenue.   Beglin was walking to the Oxford Fire Department to prepare for a Ladies Auxiliary Meeting.  As Beglin was crossing Oxford Road, she was struck by Kane’s vehicle.  Beglin was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Oxford Fire Department and Talbot County Department of Emergency Services personnel.

Police say that as the investigation continued, Deputies gathered roadway evidence as well as surveillance footage from the area.  Deputies were able to determine that at the time of the crash, Kane was operating his vehicle at a speed three times greater than the posted 25 mph speed limit.

Kane was ordered held at the Talbot County Detention Center without bond, pending a bond review before the Circuit Court of Talbot County. 

Kane appeared before the Circuit Court on January 29, 2020, at 3:30 pm and was ordered held on a $10,000.00 bond.

Kane still faces a preliminary hearing in Worcester District Court on felony charges of distribution of drugs on Ocean City on June 11, 2019.

OXFORD – Edith Jane Beglin, loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, died on Monday, July 1, 2019, in Oxford, Md. She was 71 years old.
She was born on July 28, 1947, in Beaver Falls, Pa., the daughter of the late Joseph S. and Frances Mae Stone Early.
She married Bruce Wayne Beglin on June 14, 1969, in Beaver, Pa., where they made their home, before moving to Oxford, Md., in 2012.
She enjoyed the time spent with her family, and when she wasn’t with them, she would brag about them to everybody. She loved reading to the grandkids, making them gifts, baking them cookies and cheering them on at all types of activities. Traveling with her husband, spoiling her children and enthusiastically reading countless books were some of her favorite things. She spent many happy hours volunteering for organizations in both church and community. She loved the Lord and lived a life of service that touched everyone who knew her.
Mrs. Beglin was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church. She was president of the Oxford Fire Co. Auxiliary and vice president of the Oxford Library.
She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bruce Wayne Beglin of Oxford; children, Timothy Beglin (Rhonda) of Lagrange, Ohio, Patricia Johnston (Christopher) of Mt. Vernon, Mo., Edward Beglin (Megan) of Falls Church, Va., Thomas Beglin (Georgia) of Ellicott City, Md.; grandchildren, Ethan, Logan, Tyler, Tanner, Gavin, Elsie, Benton, Dexter, Penelope, Gilbert, Brooklyn, Rockwell; a brother, Joseph D. Early (Judi); and niece, Chelsea Hayes (Tom).
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 6, at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church, 100 Peachblossom Road, Easton.
