MURDER USA: Deadly weekend in District shootings left three dead; teenagers Wilfredo Torres and Jamie Zelaya slain; woman survived gunfire with Bryan Tate Jr. down for the count

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The District of Columbia Killers Club took a swing at penetrating the lead that the killers of Baltimore have established thus far in 2020 with the murders of two teens on Feb. 22, 2020.  On Washington’s Birthday, in the City of Washington, named for the first President of the United States, murder was on sale with bullets being fired at bargain-basement prices – free for the asking. Before the weekend was over, ten people had been shot with a third person joining the two teens in being sent to the morgue.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2020, inside of a residential building, in the 6000 block of 13th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 5:02 pm, members of the Fourth District responded to the 6000 block of 13th Street, Northwest, for the report of sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located two juvenile males, and an adult female, inside of a residence, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DCFEMS) responded to the scene and found that one of the juvenile males displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The second juvenile male and adult female were transported to an area hospital for treatment. After all life-saving efforts failed, the second juvenile male was pronounced dead. The adult female was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Investigation at the scene revealed that the offense occurred inside of the residential building.

The decedents have been identified as 17-year-old Wilfredo Torres and 16-year-old Jaime Zelaya, both of Northwest, DC.

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Thursday, February 20, 2020, in the 1600 block of 18th Street, Southeast.

At approximately 1:16 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a check on the welfare. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, inside of a residence, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services found no signs consistent with life and the decedent remained on scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Investigation at the scene revealed that the shooting took place inside of the residence.

The decedent has been identified as 37-year-old Bryan Tate Jr., of Southeast, DC.

WOULD-BE KILLER CAUGHT ON CAMERA

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District seek the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in reference to an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun) offense that occurred on Saturday, February 22, 2020, in the 3800 block of Minnesota Avenue, Northeast.

At approximately 4:15 pm, the suspect and victim were involved in an altercation at the listed location. The suspect brandished a handgun and a fired shot at the victim. The suspect then fled the scene. The victim was not struck by the gunfire.

The suspect was captured by a nearby surveillance camera. Anyone who can identify this individual or who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your tip to the Department’s TEXT TIP LINE at 50411.
