GOLDEN BEACH, MD. – While bars have been ordered closed during the Wuhan Virus outbreak one resident of St. Mary’s County died – not from the virus – but from the plague of driving while intoxicated that has inflicted the area for decades.

St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on March 19, 2020, at approximately 1:29 am, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department patrol deputies responded to a single motor vehicle collision with CPR in progress at the 39000 block of Golden Beach Road in Charlotte Hall.

The Sheriff says that a preliminary investigation determined a 2019 Nissan Sentra, operated by Christina Marie Maier, 30, (DOB 09/14/1989) of 29768 Allison Circle, Mechanicsville, Md., was traveling north on Golden Beach Road when the vehicle lost control around a curve in the roadway.

Police say that Maier overcorrected the steering, left the roadway and struck a ditch and then a tree, which overturned the vehicle. Maier was transported to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center (CIVISTA) in La Plata via ambulance with lifesaving measures performed. Maier was later pronounced deceased by medical personnel.

Sheriff Cameron reports that both speed and alcohol appear to be contributing factors in the collision.

Maier paid a traffic citation for failing to drive on the right side of a roadway in front of the Panera on Festival Way in Waldorf on Dec. 10, 2019, when cited by Charles County Sheriff’s Department Officer Raymond Brooks.

A charge of drug possession placed by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Deputy Joshua Krum on Nov. 22, 2014, resulted in a guilty plea in St. Mary’s District Court and a plea deal on March 3, 2015, resulted in a sentence of one year in jail.

A final protective order involving child abuse in domestic violence was issued by a Judge against Maier on Feb. 19, 2013, in St. Mary’s District Court.

Sheriff Cameron reported on October 13, 2013, that St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Deputy Cole responded to the area of Chancellor’s Run Road and Amber Drive for a reported assault. The Sheriff reported that Christina Marie Maier, 24, of Leonardtown, allegedly assaulted the victim with her hands during an argument and a witness affirmed the attack. Maier was placed under arrest and transported to the St. Mary’s County Jail by Deputy Cole where she was charged with 2nd Degree Assault.

Maier entered a guilty plea to felony theft in St. Mary’s Circuit Court on May 30, 2014, and was sentenced to one year, five months and twenty days in jail.

A charge of DWI-drugs placed against Maier by St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Deputy James McGuire on June 30, 2008, resulted in the charges being dropped on Dec. 4, 2008, by St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz.
