DIRTBAG ROUNDUP UPDATE: Ex-con sex offender Shawn Myers sent to the slammer for a year for hosting a group of Wuhan Wahoo’s in multiple bonfires when charged for violating Emergency Order; was wheelman for the robbery of bartender Chris Mader in 2004 murder

LA PLATA, MD—Tony Covington, State’s Attorney for Charles County, announced that on Friday, September 25, 2020, Shawn Marshall Myers, after a bench trial before District Court Judge W. Louis Hennessy, was convicted of two counts of Failure to Comply with an Emergency Order. Immediately after the trial, Judge Hennessy sentenced Myers, 42 of Hughesville, to 1 year of active incarceration to be served at the Charles County Detention Center. Upon release, Myers will be on unsupervised probation for a period of three years.

On March 22, 2020, multiple officers responded to Myers’ residence located in the 15200 block of Lukes Lane in Hughesville for the report of a large party violating Governor Larry Hogan’s State of Emergency and Large Gathering Orders. Large gatherings were strictly prohibited under the orders. Myers had approximately fifty people in attendance at his residence. Upon arrival, officers told Myers that his party violated the current mandate. Myers was argumentative with officers but eventually agreed to disband his party.

Less than a week later, on March 27, 2020, officers responded back to Myers’ residence for another report of a party exceeding fifty people. Officers told Myers to disband the party, but again he was argumentative claiming he and his guests had the right to congregate. Beyond being argumentative, Myers directed his guests to stay in defiance of Governor Hogan’s Orders and the officers’ lawful orders to disband the party. Officers tried to reason with Myers and obtain his cooperation to no avail. Myers was then apprehended.

DIRTBAG ROUNDUP: Ex-con sex offender Shawn Myers was hosting a group of Wuhan Wahoo’s in multiple bonfires when charged for violating Emergency Order that bans large gatherings

HUGHESVILLE, MD. – It was bonfire time at the house of the old guy with blue hair. Surely the social media must have been alive with the sound of heavy metal and the smell of tattoo ink when the word went out to show up for a gathering of scores more than the ten people allowed by the order of Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan issued as an Emergency for the Wuhan Virus.

Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry reports that on March 27 at 10:53 p.m., officers responded to the home of Shawn Marshall Myers, (DOB 05/28/1978) at 15275 Lukes Lane in Hughesville, Md., for the report of a large group of people at a single location in violation of Governor Hogan’s emergency order which prohibits planned gatherings of more than 10 people in response to the Wuhan Virus emergency.

When officers arrived, they observed approximately 60 people at a bonfire. Police say that the congregants all went home when confronted by police orders to disperse but the ringleader, Myers, was the host and he was awarded 14 days or more of quarantine in the Chuck County Hoosegow – where might not be able to have is doo dyed blue anytime soon.

Police say that this is the second time officers have responded to this residence of Shawn Myers for a large gathering: On March 22, 2020, officers were dispatched to the house for a similar complaint.

At that time, the homeowner, Shawn Marshall Myers, 41, was advised of the emergency order and he agreed to disperse the crowd. During the second incident, Myers refused multiple requests to comply with the emergency order.

After conferring with the Charles County State’s Attorney Anthony Covington, Myers was subsequently charged by Charles County Sheriff’s Department Patrol Officer Linda Bagwell with violating the Governor’s order.

Myers was ordered held without bond pending a hearing in the Charles County Jail.

Taxpayers of Maryland will be delighted to learn that they will be paying for a free attorney to represent Myers in Charles County District Court on March 30, 2020, to determine if he will be let loose from the slammer.

Myers for a crime committed on Nov. 4, 2004, was handed five counts of first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit robbery, use of a gun in a violent crime, and attempted robbery by the Charles County Circuit Court Grand Jury on April 8, 2011.

In a plea deal on Sept. 12, 2012, Myers entered an Alford Plea to robbery and the other charges were dropped.  An Alford Plea acknowledged that the prosecution had enough evidence to convince a jury that he was guilty and therefore he was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison with the entire sentence suspended with five years of supervised probation.

Myers entered a guilty plea to conspiracy to commit robbery on March 3, 2009, and was sentenced to fifteen years in prison with all but five years suspended.

On March 9, 2009, Myers pleaded guilty to failing to register as a sex offender in Charles County Circuit Court and was sentenced to 121 days in the Charles County Jail.

SHAWN MYERS WAS WHEELMAN OF TRIO THAT LAID IN WAIT FOR WALDORF BARTENDER CHRIS MADER TO ROB HIM AS HE LEFT BENNIGANS

THE KILLER

The sex offense committed by Shawn Myers was the topic of an appeal in which Matthew Derek Correll attempted to overturn his conviction of the attempted robbery and first-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder with a deadly weapon, and two counts of the commission of a crime of violence in the murder of Christopher Mader the day after Thanksgiving of 2004. Correll was sentenced to life in prison without parole and two consecutive sentences of twenty years each.

The robbery charge that Shawn Myers was convicted of was when he was driving the car which forced murder victim Chris Mader off the road and into electrical boxes on the side of Smallwood Drive in Waldorf, as he, James Chaney, and Matthew Correll plotted to rob the victim.

Mader was a bartender at Bennigan’s in Waldorf and the fact that he made substantial tips at his job, especially around holidays and weekends became known to Shawn Myers, who frequented the bar.  Myers ran a tattoo parlor in Bel Alton and testified against Correll in the murder trial. On Nov. 25, 2004, Myers was waiting in a car in the parking lot of the bar and planning to rob Mader.

The plan to rob Mader was fueled in part by a desire by Myers to obtain funds to subsidize his tattoo parlor.

Following the closing of the bar, with the accomplices in the conspiracy to rob Mader waiting in the parking lot, Mader left and drove off in his Dodge Stratus, unknowingly being followed by the trio of robbers. When Myers forced Mader’s car off the road into electrical transformers on the edge Smallwood Parkway, Correll approached the car and shot Mader in the head. Myers testified as a witness for the prosecution at the trial and told a slightly different story from that of James Chaney, but in both scenarios, Myers was driving when Correll left the car and murdered Mader.

Tips for rewards advertised by the Charles County Sheriff’s Department elicited information from Kevin Smith about admissions made to him by Correll while both were incarcerated.  Smith considered himself a jailhouse lawyer and was sought out by other inmates for free advice. Smith was interested in the reward being offered for information about the Mader slaying and contacted police and followed through as a witness for the prosecution.  James Chaney testified as to the complicity of Shawn Myers – the bonfire Wuhan Wahoo of Hughesville – driving the car that forced Mader off of the road by pulling in front of him.  When Correll leaped from the car and shot and killed Mader, Myers took off, leaving Correll behind.

Matthew Derek Correll, (DOB 12/21/1980) of Farmville, in King George, Virginia was found guilty of distribution of heroin in Hanover Circuit Court in Virginia on Sept. 12, 2011 and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Correll was indicted on Oct. 21, 2009 and arrested on May 18, 2010, not long before he was grabbed by Maryland authorities for the murder of Christopher Mader.  Correll is now incarcerated in the Maryland prison system, North Branch Correctional Institution in Cumberland, Maryland – where it is unlikely he is actually being corrected of his criminal tendencies and should be his permanent place of residence.
