MARYLAND STATE POLICE NEWS BEAT: Get those fancy wheels ready, Taleya Monei Holbert is leaving the lockdown

MECHANICSVILLE, MD. – Tired of the Wuhan Virus shut down and the riots and looting getting to be yesterday’s news?  For a District of Columbia woman, allegedly stealing the identity of a woman 3,000 miles away was going to be her ticket to buying a car.

According to a preliminary investigation, Maryland State Police say that Taleya Monei Holbert, 22, (DOB 06/16/1997) of 344 13th Street, SE Washington, D.C. allegedly submitted fraudulent information online to purchase a vehicle from the Used Car Factory in Mechanicsville, Md.

Holbert arrived to complete the paperwork still claiming to be the fictitious person while the dealer became suspicious and contacted the Maryland State Police.  A trooper contacted the suspect who again identified herself as the fictitious person.

Maryland Trooper Rachel Kaszubski placed the Holbert under arrest on June 10, 2020.  The suspect was never able to take possession of the vehicle, which was valued at $53, 540.

Holbert is charged with theft $25,000 to under $100,000, three counts of fraud, possession with intent to use a false government ID, and forgery. She was released after posting a $10,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing in District Court in Leonardtown has been set for Aug. 27, 2020.  The taxpayers of Maryland should be overjoyed that they will be footing the bill for a free attorney for Holbert.

Holbert was charged with felony II receiving stolen property and unauthorized use a vehicle on the Superior Court of the District of Columbia on Jan. 25, 2018. Holbert asserted that she was not guilty.  On Jan. 29, 2018, U.S. Attorney Jessie K. Liu dropped the charge, which undoubtedly pleasing her attorney, Martin W. Rosendorf.

Holbert visited the Commonwealth of Virginia, at least once, finding herself arrested on April 29, 2019, and facing charges in Dinwiddie General District Court on a charge of doing 78 mph in a 60-mph speed zone.  Apparently having had enough of that hick town in Virginia, she didn’t bother to show up in court and was found guilty in absentia on June 6, 2019, and fined $108 and assessed court costs of $101.

Three men who arrived at the dealership with Holbert took off and fled to unknown parts when they learned the scheme was falling apart.

Shark Barry Givens awarded siblings Greg Jackson (11-year-old) and Taleya Holbert(18-year-old) from Washington DC crowdsourcing services for their creation of the 3D Affirmation Nightlight. See more
