MURDER USA: Bar Fight Sent Edward Young to Trauma Unit and Eventually to Grave; Jerome Thomas Faces Homicide Rap

BROOKLYN, MD. – Just before the Wuhan Virus got a Grip on Anne Arundel County, bars were full and fights were aplenty. On February 21, 2020, at approximately 9:42 p.m., the Anne Arundel County Police and Fire Department responded to Milt’s Rendezvous (Bar and Restaurant) located in the 600 block of Church Street, Brooklyn, Anne Arundel County, Maryland for a report of a physical altercation.

When police officers and emergency medical personnel arrived, they located Edward Young, a 45-year-old male from Baltimore, who was suffering from a head injury.

Police say that Young was transported by ambulance to a local hospital and on March 1, 2020, Young died from the injuries and was pronounced deceased. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner (OCME) conducted a post-mortem examination and on June 17, 2020, the OCME ruled Young’s death a homicide.

During the investigation, detectives from Northern District Detective Unit and Homicide Detectives conducted numerous witness interviews, recovered evidence, and reviewed surveillance footage. Upon review of the evidence, detectives discovered Young was inside the establishment and became involved in a physical altercation with Jerome Linwood Thomas, a 38-year-old male from Baltimore.

They Took the Fight Outside the Bar Just like in The Old West

 The altercation continued outside the establishment. While on the parking lot, Young attempted to assault Thomas. At that time, police report that Thomas’s family member came to his defense and punched Young causing him to fall to the ground. While Young was on the ground, video surveillance showed Thomas approach Young and assault him causing serious injuries to his upper body.

Upon examination of the evidence and with the cooperation of the Anne Arundel County States Attorney’s Office, an arrest warrant was issued for Thomas.

 On August 19, 2020, the Anne Arundel County Police Department Fugitive Apprehension Team assisted by the Baltimore Police Department arrested Thomas at his residence in the 4900 block of Pennington Avenue in Baltimore. He was taken into custody without incident.

Thomas was criminally charged with Second Degree Murder, Manslaughter, First and Second-Degree Assault, and Reckless Endangerment.  Thomas is currently being held on no bond at the Anne Arundel County Jail. Representing Thomas in the serious charges is Peter Sean O’Neill of Glen Burnie. A preliminary hearing is set for Sept. 16, 2020.

Jerome Thomas was found guilty of second-degree assault and resisting arrest in Baltimore City District Court on Aug. 27, 2008 and received a two-year sentence in jail which was suspended. According to Maryland Court records, this is the first murder charge placed against Thomas.
