WALDORF, MD. – Charles County Sheriff Troy Berry reports that on January 21 at 12:45 a.m., officers responded to a townhouse located at 2491 Hanover Court in Waldorf for the report of the sound of gunshots. When officers arrived, they observed the front door to one of the townhomes was open.

“Someone explain why we can’t get free health care. America you suck.”
That statement from one of the murder victims found shot to death in her rented townhouse just off of Rt. 301 is from the Facebook page of KanDeon Niravanh, of Waldorf. The expression provides a glimpse into the attitude of entitlement of some of the population who believe that somehow health care is a right, not something that someone purchases or pays for through insurance. Niravanh no longer needs to worry about health care as she was found, along with her roommate, shot to death on January 21, 2021.
Niravanh worked recently at the AMF Bowling Alley and formerly at a burger joint and a Holiday Inn Express Hotel on Rt. 301 in Waldorf after attending North Point High School, in the class of 2014. Niravanh played on the girl’s basketball team at North Point.
The townhouse that she rented with her roommate recently went under contract for sale and an eviction filed by their landlord on November 23, 2020, was still pending as well.

Sheriff Troy Berry reports that officers located the victim, Fredrick Markeith Young, 24, of Bryans Road, with a gunshot wound to the upper body. Citizens and paramedics attempted life-saving efforts; however, the victim was pronounced deceased on the scene. After learning the suspect ran into a nearby home, officers set up a perimeter. They established communication with the people inside and were able to convince them to exit the home.
Since it was not clear if anyone else was still inside, officers from the Emergency Services Team (EST) and Hostage Negotiators Team (HNT) responded. Members of the EST entered the house and determined no one was inside. Detectives subsequently identified one of the occupants who initially exited the house as the shooter in this case.
Harold Leonard Turley, 24, of Bryans Road, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, use of a firearm during the commission of a crime, and other related charges. He is being held at the Charles County Jail without bond.
