Dec. 26 Deputy Flynt Update from Sheriff Cox
Good evening Calvert County. I was able to spend some time with Deputy Flynt and I am happy to report he is doing better than expected to this point. He had another surgery yesterday and is scheduled for another tomorrow (Tuesday). We are hoping that is the last surgery for a while. He did have to spend Christmas in the hospital. However, he remained in good spirits and has been in communication with family, friends, and co-workers. We hope he can be released from his current facility in the next few weeks. He still has a long road of rehabilitation ahead of him, but all things considered, our Christmas wishes have come true to this point. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers as he moves along this journey. I will keep you updated as best as I can. Thank you.

Senior Deputy Flynt Update and Thank You
Good morning Calvert County, I just wanted to give a quick update on Master Deputy Flynt. We are ecstatic to be able to say his condition has improved, and currently, he can be described as stable. He has been alert and able to communicate. He will undergo more surgery today and remain in ICU for what looks like an extended period. While he still has a long road to recovery, his prognosis has greatly improved in the last 24 hours. Please continue to keep him in your thoughts and prayers.
I would also like to take a moment to recognize our dispatchers and our emergency medical personnel. The audio of the call reveals some of the most professional, well-trained individuals I have ever heard in a stressful situation. It is this seamless teamwork between the police, dispatchers, and medical personnel on the scene that allowed for getting the proper resources. But more importantly, those actions allowed for Deputy Flynt to get to CalvertHealth in the most efficient manner possible. Once there, they did amazing work to get him stabilized and on a flight to Medstar. These actions greatly contributed to saving his life.
Thank you to all involved, your amazing work did not go unnoticed.

Brandon Alexander Turner of PG County was identified as the suspect who shot Deputy James Flynt
Detectives assigned to the Criminal Investigations Bureau have identified the suspect in the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Dec. 17, 2022, on Walnut Creek Road in Huntingtown, as Brandon Alexander Turner, 21, of Greenbelt, MD. Turner is facing charges of Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Assault 1st Degree, Attempted 2nd Degree Murder, and Assault 2nd Degree of a Law Enforcement Officer. Brandon Alexander Turner (8/4/2001) of 12111 Birchview Drive, Clinton, Md, was charged in Prince Georges’s District Court on March 31, 2022 animal cruelty and second-degree assault for an offense that took place on March 23, 2022. Turner was also charged with felony aggravated cruelty to an animal. Rockville attorney Terrance M. McGann is listed in court records as Turner’s attorney in this case.
The injured deputy, Senior Deputy James Flynt, remains in critical condition at this time. Flynt is a 5-year veteran of the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office who served several years prior at the Calvert County Detention Center as a Correctional Deputy.
Deputy T. Bowen and Deputy A. Aranda have been placed on administrative leave per agency policy.
FROM CALVERT SHERIFF-ELECT RICKY COX: Last night, I received a call no Sheriff ever wants to receive. One of our deputies was shot while exchanging gunfire with a suspect following a vehicle pursuit. The suspect was also shot, and both of them were transported to area trauma centers for their injuries. The suspect is in stable condition, and our deputy is out of surgery and remains in critical condition.
We will know more specifics about the incident in the coming days. But you should know the deputies involved in this case were nothing short of heroic. They apprehended the suspect and provided him with immediate medical attention. They protected the public’s safety while simultaneously taking care of their brother.
The deputy that was injured literally put his life on the line. He did not go to work yesterday, knowing his life would be changed forever. But, as he has done every day of his career, he suited up knowing it was a possibility.
The support from the citizens of this county has been nothing short of amazing. This deputy, those directly involved, and the men and women of this agency are going to need your prayers and support in the coming days and weeks. Thank you to all of the emergency services that have rendered aid. The outpouring of support has been incredible.
As I mentioned, the deputy is out of surgery, and we are waiting for news in regard to his recovery. I will be sure to keep our community updated as we receive additional updates going forward.

UPDATE: Serious injury to deputy may end his career
THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY has learned that the deputy who was injured by the fleeing felonious acts of a suspect firing at several deputies in Huntingtown was shot in the leg with an artery hit and then a bone before the bullet exited. Many such injuries lead to a medical retirement forced upon an officer and ending his or her career in law enforcement.
The criminals of Prince Georges’s County treat the Calvert County, St. Mary’s, and Charles County communities as if they are their buffet line from which to steal and rob, making more commonplace such shootings at citizens and officers. Meanwhile, legislators from PG County and County officials are arguing about establishing a curfew for teens due to so many incidents of teens being involved in shootings and murders. At the same time, the hyper-liberal socialist legislators keep up their efforts to strip citizens of lawfully owning and carrying guns.
UPDATE: Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputy Shot During Vehicle Pursuit
On Saturday, December 17, 2022, around 9:30 p.m., Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the area of Yellow Bank Road in Dunkirk. During the initial stop, the suspect vehicle fled from deputies at a high rate southbound on Rt. 4.
Preliminary investigation revealed the suspect driving the fleeing vehicle opened fire at pursuing deputies, striking one patrol vehicle. The pursuit continued to the Walnut Creek subdivision in Huntingtown, where deputies utilized a Pit Maneuver to terminate the pursuit. The occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. The suspect that was driving fired additional rounds, ultimately striking a deputy. Deputies returned fire and the suspect fled into the nearby development.
The passenger of the vehicle was immediately taken into custody. A short time later, deputies apprehended the suspect near the entrance to the neighborhood. It was determined the suspect had also been shot, suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Both the suspect and the deputy were transported to area trauma centers for injuries received. The suspect remains in stable condition. Calvert Sheriff Mike Evans, who leaves office in two days, reports that the deputy is in critical condition as of 2 am on December 18, 2022.
Two additional deputies involved in the exchange of gunfire have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with agency policy.
In accordance with Maryland State Law, The Maryland Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division (IID) was contacted but declined to handle the investigation based on a lack of qualifying factors. The Calvert County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate.
Initial report:
A shooting of a Calvert Sheriff Deputy in the Huntingtown area on Rt. 4 at Ponds Woods Road on Sunday, December 17, 2022, at about 9:30 pm, resulted in the wounded officer being flown on a Maryland State Police Medivac Helicopter to a trauma unit and the suspect captured.
Calvert Sheriff’s Department issued an emergency alert to the public to remain indoors as the black male wearing a white tee shirt and jeans was regarded as armed and dangerous. Police were searching in the area of Walnut Creek, and residents were warned to call 911 and not approach if seen.

Pothead Michael Warren zoned out at the gas pumps at Wawa; trial set for December 27, 2022, will now be postponed due to the shooting of Deputy Flynt
On August 9, 2022, Senior Deputy James Flynt was conducting a patrol check at the Wawa in Prince Frederick and observed a vehicle without headlights illuminated pull into the gas pumps.
Deputy Flynt then proceeded to check the welfare of the driver after being parked at the pumps for over an hour.
The driver was identified as Michael David Warren II, 26 (DOB 9/12/1995), of 4720 Washington Avenue, Shady Side, Md, when he was found asleep in the driver’s seat.
Police say that a glass smoking device and a green leafy substance were observed in plain view. A vehicle search revealed several smoking devices, a zip lock baggie containing a white powdery
substance, a yellow package containing suspected marijuana, three individual bags of marijuana
weighing approximately one ounce each, and one clear Zip-lock bag of marijuana weighing
approximately 8 grams.
Warren was placed into custody and transported to the Calvert County Jail, where he was charged with CDS: Possession-Not Marijuana, CDS: Possession of Marijuana 10 GM+, CDS: Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotics, and CDS: Possession of Paraphernalia. Warren was immediately released without any bail, according to Maryland Court Records. Kyle B. Tores, Assistant State’s Attorney, District Court Division Chief, filed criminal information charges against Warren on September 21, 2022.

Pitt, 26, of Prince Frederick, MD, was previously trespassed indefinitely from the property.
Pitt was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Jail where she
was charged with Trespassing: Private Property.
CATHERINE ELEANOR COYLE (DOB 11/20/1985) of 11451 Green Acres Court, Dunkirk, Md., 20754, was arrested for DWI on Jan. 14, 2020, at 9:08 pm by Calvert Sheriff’s Department Deputy James Flynt as she operated a 2005 Chevy northbound on Rt. 4 at Bright Lane. Coyle will appear in District Court on March 18, 2020, and the hapless Taxpayers of Maryland paid for her free attorney.
Calvert States Attorney Bob Harvey gave a weak plea deal and suspended sentence to Catherine Coyle
- Catherine Coyle was found guilty of failing to control her speed to avoid a collision on Aug. 2, 2018, in a plea deal with the Calvert States Attorney and two counts of following too closely were dropped. Following her arrest by Maryland State Trooper C. Esnes, Coyle pleaded guilty to driving without a permit on June 8, 2015, and was given Probation Before Judgement.
- Catherine Coyle entered a guilty plea to driving without a permit on July 21, 2014, in Annapolis District Court following her arrest by Annapolis Police Officer T. Fedell. THE DEAL: A verdict of Probation Before Judgement. Coyle also pleaded guilty to driving while suspended on Feb. 3, 2012, in Calvert District Court after she was arrested by Calvert Sheriff’s Department Deputy M. Economes. A bench warrant was issued for her on two occasions in order to bring her for a date with a Judge.
PG County Woman Busted for Burglary by Deputy Flynt
On February 17, 2022, Deputy T. Bowen and S/DFC James Flynt responded to a residence on Terrace Drive in Prince Frederick, MD, for the report of a burglary. The complainant advised she woke up to an unknown black female inside of her residence petting the family dog on her couch.
Police say that the Investigation revealed the suspect,
Aryonna Monique Parks, 28, of Clinton, MD, entered the residence through an unlocked basement door, walked upstairs, and began roaming around the residence. Deputies arrived on the scene and apprehended Parks. Parks was transported to the Calvert County Jail, where she was charged with 4th -Degree Burglary and Trespassing: Private Property.
STINKY AIR LED TO THE ARREST OF JOLLY OLLIE
On May 24, 2019, Deputy James Flynt conducted a traffic stop on Southern Maryland Blvd at Cortland Lane in Dunkirk. While making contact with the driver, Ollie Rupert Collier (75), Deputy Flynt noticed the odor of raw marijuana emanating from the vehicle.
Police say that as Deputy Flynt opened the driver’s door, Collier stepped out and kept his hand behind his back as if he was concealing something. Collier pulled away from Deputy Flynt and continued to resist until he was placed in handcuffs. Collier was placed under arrest and transported to the Calvert County Jail, where he was charged with Resisting/Interfering with Arrest as well as Obstructing & Hindering.
