CHARGES AGAINST GRASSO DROPPED

WELCOME, MD – The Maryland State Police charged Jeffrey Robert Grasso with negligent driving in the death of the operator of a motorcycle that took place when he crossed the center line of Rt. 6 in Welcome, Maryland, on April 5, 2023. Grasso was already on probation after his conviction for failing to stay at the scene of a crash and was ordered to abstain from the use, sale, or possession of narcotics.

The deceased is identified as Alan Michael Reinburg, 34, of Mechanicsville. Emergency medical service personnel pronounced Reinburg deceased on the scene. Reinburg worked with a landscaping service in St. Mary’s County and leaves a young child. John Reinburg is sponsoring a Gofundme to provide for funeral and family.

The operator of an F-150 truck involved in the crash is identified as Jeffrey Robert Grasso, 37 (DOB 5/12/1985), of 17753 Oak Manor Drive, Waldorf, Maryland. State Police reported that Grasso was transported to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center for medical treatment.

At approximately 2:20 p.m., on April 5, 2023, troopers from the La Plata Barrack responded to the report of a crash involving a motorcycle on Route 6/Port Tobacco Road at Academy Place in Welcome, Maryland.

The preliminary investigation indicates a Ford F-150 was traveling eastbound on Port Tobacco Road while a motorcycle was traveling westbound. For reasons unknown at this time, the driver of the Ford F-150 crossed the double yellow center line and struck the motorcycle.

Personnel from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration assisted with a detour around the crash scene. Personnel from the Charles County State’s Attorney’s Office also responded to the scene.

Witnesses of the incident are urged to contact Crash Team investigators at 301-392-1231.

Court records show that on April 6, 2023, Maryland State Trooper R. Shank filed a citation against Jeffrey Robert Grasso for:

  • negligent driving in a careless and imprudent manner that endangered property, life, and a person.
  • Driving while suspended.
  • Driving with expired tags.
  • Failure to obey traffic control device.

Jeffrey Robert Grasso has listed various addresses around Charles County in recent years including: 9789 Charles Street, LaPlata, Md., when he entered a guilty plea to failing to remain at the scene of a crash in Charles County District Court on July 26, 2022, and was sentenced by District Court Judge Kenneth Talley to sixty days and jail. The plea deal by Charles County States Attorney Anthony Covington allowed the sentence to be totally suspended.

Jeffrey Grasso was named as the defendant in a domestic violence protective order requested in Charles County District Court on January 3, 2019. The order was finalized on July 12, 2019, and valid through January 3, 2020.

In a plea deal in Charles County, District Court held on May 5, 2010, Jeffrey Robert Grasso entered a guilty plea before District Court Judge E. Gregory Wells to failure to stop after an unattended property damage collision on Old Leonardtown Road in Waldorf.  The plea deal approved by Charles County States Attorney Tony Covington provided for a sentence of sixty days in jail with all of the jail time suspended and a fine of $92.50. Grasso was living at a house on Woodland Point Road in Newburg at the time of the incident and was arrested by Charles County Sheriff Deputy P. McPherson.  Attorney Henri C. Delozier Jr of Bowie represented Grasso in the plea deal. Chase bank foreclosed on the Woodland Point property in 2019.

THEFT CHARGES IN ST. MARY’S COUNTY

Court records show that Jeffrey Robert Grasso was found guilty of theft by District Court Judge Robert Riddle and, on January 11, 2018, was ordered to pay $60,000 in restitution to Angel Systems Inc of Great Mills, Maryland. Further, the Judge ordered that Grasso stay away from the premises of Angel Systems, a pest control company, and pay all fines, costs, and fees.

The Southern Maryland News reported that Jeffrey Robert Grasso, 32, of Newburg, has been charged through a summons with a theft offense in court papers alleging he stole a company’s pesticides and equipment valued at more than $10,000 during a four-year period while employed at the business.

While working at Angel Systems located just off Great Mills Road, Grasso “had been stealing inventory for several years and selling the items on eBay,” an online auction website, charging papers allege, and he was developed as a suspect in the losses after a review of his company email account. Grasso was terminated from his job, according to the charging papers filed from the investigation by sheriff’s deputy Hannah Smith. The items listed for sale on Grasso’s eBay account were matched with an inventory list from the business, a charges application states, and “the total loss came to approximately $85,621.”

On June 27, 2021, Jeffrey Robert Grasso, 36, of La Plata, was arrested on two warrants for Theft: $1,500 to under $25,000 and two warrants for Theft: $100 to under $1,500 by Deputy Andrew Burgess of the St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department.

A charge of fraud and identity theft was filed in Charles County District Court by the State of Maryland against Jeffrey Grasso, with the plaintiff listed in court records as his father, Louis D. Grasso, on July 25, 2020.

Jeffrey Robert Grasso obtained a plea deal from Charles County States Attorney Tony Covington on a charge of felony theft on July 11, 2022, and was sentenced by Circuit Court Judge Hayward James West to three years in prison with all but six months suspended.  A domestic violence petition asking for a protective order was brought by Louis D. Grasso against Jeffrey Grasso in July of 2020 in Charles County District Court.

Jeffrey Robert Grasso is the son of the late Lou Grasso, who served Charles County in several capacities, including as chairman of the Economic Development Commissioner, Chairman of the Charles County Planning Commission. Lou Grasso founded the Grasso Realty Group, The Marina Specialists, and was chairman of a holding company that owned a Florida bank.
