ARMED ROBBERY TRIO CREATED CRIME SPREE ACROSS BALTIMORE REGION

One of the Defendants Brandished a Gun in Each Robbery

Baltimore, Maryland – Co-defendants Marquis Moore, age 35, and Milek Rankin, age 29, both of Baltimore, each pleaded guilty to committing a series of armed commercial robberies and to brandishing a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence.  Moore entered his guilty plea on March 7, 2022, and Rankin pleaded guilty.

According to the statements of fact filed as part of Moore’s and Rankin’s guilty pleas, from at least November 2018 through March 1, 2019, Moore and Rankin, along with co-defendant Dontrell Glover, conspired to commit robberies of commercial businesses, including fast-food restaurants, video game stores, cell phone stores, and discount stores in Baltimore City, Baltimore County, and Anne Arundel County.

During each robbery, Moore brandished a firearm to use fear to obtain money and/or other items from the businesses. For example, on January 4, 2019, Moore and Rankin robbed a cell phone store in Essex, Maryland.  Moore carried a loaded handgun.  When the store employee resisted giving the robbers money from the business, Moore took the magazine out of the handgun, showed it to the employee, and said, “You can see it’s loaded.  We’re not playing games.  Give us the d**n money.”  The handgun was loaded with hollow point bullets.  During the robbery, Moore struck the employee with the handgun.  Moore and Rankin fled using a get-away vehicle driven by Glover.  The robbers stole $739 from the store. Moore and Rankin admitted that they committed at least eight additional robberies, with Moore brandishing a gun during each robbery, often pointing the gun at employees.  Moore and Rankin fled each robbery using the same get-away vehicle driven by Glover.  The conspirators stole a total of at least $15,500 in cash, as well as merchandise, including game systems and food.

Moore and Rankin were sentenced to 12 years in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett in June 2022.

Dontrell Glover, age 30, of Baltimore, previously pleaded guilty to his role in the robberies and is scheduled to be sentenced on June 28, 2022.

Baltimore, Maryland – United States District Judge Brendan A. According to his guilty plea, in January 2020, Holloway and his co-conspirators planned and committed armed robberies of three commercial businesses.  Specifically, on January 4, January 15, and January 22, Holloway and at least one of his co-defendants robbed cellphone stores in Ellicott City, Glen Burnie, and Dundalk, Maryland, respectively.  Holloway brandished a gun in each robbery and he and his co-defendant stole cellphones and other electronic devices.  In the first robbery, Holloway and his co-defendant also stole the wallets of two employees and in the third robbery, they forced the employees to open and empty the safe and stole cash in addition to the cellphones and electronic devices.  After the third robbery, Holloway and two co-defendants were arrested in Baltimore County.

Holloway was busted for dealing cocaine in 2010 and sentenced to over eight years in slammer

A Frederick man will spend eight years and four months in federal prison for conspiracy to distribute powder and crack cocaine, heroin and marijuana, U.S. Attorney Rod J. Rosenstein announced after a sentencing hearing Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore.

The federal system offers no probation or parole, which means Gary Holloway, 32, known as Punchy to his associates, will spend 100 months in a prison that could be outside Maryland.

Holloway is the fifth defendant to be prosecuted under the Frederick County Exile program since it was launched in April 2009.

Project Exile is a coordinated effort by local, state and federal agencies to fight violent crime, especially gun crimes involving repeat offenders. Federal authorities said Holloway conspired with others to distribute narcotics in spring 2009.

Frederick police found a large plastic bag in the inner parts of the athletic shorts Holloway had on under his blue jeans during a search of his apartment on Heather Ridge Drive on March 6, 2009. Inside the bag were several smaller bags of crack cocaine, powder cocaine, heroin and marijuana, authorities said. They also seized $355 from Holloway’s front pants pocket.

On May 13, 2009, officers went to a Providence Court residence and found that Holloway had used a .45-caliber Ruger revolver in the commission of a drug trafficking crime, authorities said.

Police found crack cocaine, heroin, and marijuana in the room where Holloway had been.

On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett also ordered Holloway to serve three years of supervised release after he completes his sentence.

“Exemplary coordination by local, state and federal law enforcement agencies is enabling us to make significant progress in fighting violent crime in Frederick County,” Rosenstein said.
