NEWS ANALYSIS and GREAT COMMENTARY
LEONARDTOWN, MD. – Candidates for St. Mary’s School Board must file their campaign finance reports by the final deadline of October 25th, which allows little time for the public to digest and analyze the spending, contributions, and miracles performed by money in the quest for election victory.
The clever among the politicians, big business, big labor, and deep state government class have everything timed to culminate in their power and control over the levers of government at all levels, pinpointed to Election Day.

Five challengers, one of them a write-in candidate with but meager hope of prevailing, are contesting for three open spots on the St. Mary’s County School Board, which is in a deep fall of accomplishment since the days of achievement and success under the tutelage of School Superintendent Dr. Michael Martirano and leadership of Dr. Sal Raspa as chairman. The trajectory of the public school system is now headed for the basement when, under Martirano’s leadership, the St. Mary’s Schools were among the top in the state and scoring well in every measurement category.

Outgoing At-Large member James Davis is ending his second of two terms and is glad to be leaving. Chair Karin Bailey has another two years in her present term, as does member Dorothy Andrews.

Is it any wonder that parents are taking their children to private and parochial schools or homeschooling?

Andrews urged parents to read what is being taught in schools
Dorothy Andrews posted this on May 22, 2022, on her Facebook page:
Has anyone had a chance to read any of the Health/Sex Education or any other curriculum for the 2022/23 school year? The charts are quick to review what each grade level from 2nd through 12 grade will be taught. The pages are 20 – 59 of link provided. I would love to hear your comments. Would anyone like to share their thoughts at the next board meeting, May 25th?
THE INQUISITION OF DOROTHY ANDREWS BY
THE LGBTQ RADICALS WHO WISH TO RULE

Andrews is the target of an effort led by Socialist Brandon Russell to intimidate her in retaliation to her conservative views and to wear a political item of jewelry to a school graduation.
- Self-proclaimed Socialist Russell led a contingent of radicals before the St. Mary’s County school board meeting in September. They lectured the board on the intent of the 1995 legislation, which created the elected school board on a non-partisan basis. The militant radicals of the teacher’s union and socialists are expected to gang up on Andrews again at the next St. Mary’s School Board meeting.
- The St. Mary’s Board of Education has launched an INQUISITION into fellow board member, using public funds, to hire a law firm to conduct an investigation that will lead to nothing but the fact that Andrews has the right to attend any public function, including a political function, as is her right under the First Amendment and is not in violation of Maryland law.
- The Ethics Committee of the school board is composed of the following people who have been assigned the Pavolian task of hunting down the witch and burning her at the stake:
- Robert Ertter, Chairperson, lives in Tall Timbers, Md.
- Katie Hill, Vice Chairperson, Works at BAE and lives in Chaptico, Md.
- Roy Alvey, Panel Member
- John Walters, Panel Member
- Christine McDonough, Panel Member
- Suja Varghese, BOE Legal Advisor

Ironically, unsuccessful 2022 Democratic Commissioner candidate Steven Tuttle, the running mate of 2022 Democratic Party commissioner candidate Brandon Russell, on the slate in St. Mary’s County, donated $500 on June 24, 2024, to the campaign of incumbent member Cathy Allen, who challenger Elena Brewer opposes.
Cathy Allen August filing of campaign finance
Tuttle, a Democrat, when he filed for office in 2022, listed an address on Myrtle Point in California, where he lives with his husband, while his address with the election filing was a different one. The address Tuttle listed in 2022 on Myrtle Glen Way in California, Md., was not his principal place of residence, which was in conflict with his filing for office representing that commissioner district in the election. Tuttle lists the same address in the campaign contribution to Cathy Allen in the 2024 election. This listing in 2024 shows that Tuttle now claims the address as his principal residence on state tax records.

The 2022 election in St. Mary’s was the first in county history with two gay Democrats on the ticket for commissioner. Russell opposed Republican Mike Hewitt, and Tuttle opposed Republican Scott Ostrow. Both Democrats lost. Both are expected to run for office again as both espouse community activism. Tuttle had lived in St. Mary’s County for one year when he decided that the community needed to be led by someone of his caliber.
The Democrats’ hypocrisy is consistent with the party at every level, whereas if it wasn’t for double standards, Democrats wouldn’t have any standards.
Brewer is a target of a Maryland Democratic Party effort to defeat conservatives contesting school board seats across Maryland. Brewer is an outspoken opponent of the radical agenda seeking to sexualize education in elementary schools with LGTBQ indoctrination. Burch Oil Company, a longtime supporter of Democratic Party candidates, contributed $200 to Cathy Allen as the wagons of the leftists are circled to defeat Brewer.

The Democrats’ hypocrisy is consistent with the party at every level, whereas if it wasn’t for double standards, Democrats wouldn’t have any standards. They are attacking Dorothy Andrews because she appeared at a partisan political rally, which is her First Amendment right to do so, while the Maryland Democrats inject partisanship into the non-partisan school board elections by dumping on parental rights advocates running in Maryland to push for a return to education instead of indoctrination.
PROJECT 1776

Brandon Russell recently asserted that Brewer, Drys, and Edelen each received a campaign contribution of $7,000 from a national PAC committed to supporting conservatives to be elected to local school boards to fight back against the radical DEI agenda across the nation. Drys hit back at Russell in a Facebook post stating that none of the three received a penny from the PAC, and campaign records on file with the Maryland Election Board confirm that, as of the most recent filing, that is true. 1776 PAC sent out a mailer to voter addresses in St. Mary’s County from an Ohio address urging the election of Drys, Brewer, and Edelen. Such Political Action Committees are legal despite the great angst shown by Socialists.
AT-LARGE BOARD OF EDUCATION IN ST. MARY’S
Running for the at-large seat are Josh Guy and Brandie Edelen. Tyra Bennett is a write-in candidate. Bennett is shown below in a video of a community forum hosted by the Republican Club at Potomac Gardens in Coltons Point.
Brandie Edelen August Report
Elena Brewer opposes Cathy Allen for another term, while David Drys of Hollywood opposes Mary Washington. Allen and Washington have presided over the murder of a student at Great Mills High School and refused to install metal detectors or advanced protection systems designed to inspect a walking line of people at the high schools; instead, they blew eleven million dollars on paving sports fields with artificial turf.
Elena Brewer August Report
The pitiful results of students’ performance in reading and math skills, which show the steep decline of St. Mary’s Public Schools, are reason enough for voters to deny either Washington or Allen yet another term to add to their three decades in office, as there are no term limits.

One of the most revealing aspects of the campaign finance records is that of Josh Guy. Guy is a particularly bright young man who, at twenty-two, believes that his experience as a substitute schoolteacher—a post that requires little more than a pulse—qualifies him for a seat on the board of education. Brandie Edelen is a certified teacher, an instructor at the College of Southern Maryland, a business owner, and a mother of six children, making her exceptionally qualified.
Josh Guy has excelled in learning the art of politics, how to market himself as a politician, and how to convince sane people to part with their money to support his effort to gain office. While Josh has identified issues that concern parents, particularly the violence in the St. Mary’s Public Schools, he has learned to communicate his views that parents need to be heard on this issue and not brushed off as has been the dismissive attitude of the school board. School board meetings are pre-scripted cheerleading events by board members who insist that every administrator and presenter who appears before them is truly a gift from heaven above. The school board even listens attentively when the student member makes earth-shaking pronouncements during meetings.

Former Democratic Central Committee Member John Weiner advocates cheating in elections and even sent a memo to himself…

John Weiner says he is not a liberal and does not encourage anyone to break the law.
On October 24, 2024, at the early voting center at the Hollywood Firehouse, John Weiner told THE CHESAPEAKE TODAY that the above Facebook page on which he posted did not say he suggested anyone break the law. “I am a lawyer; I would never advise anyone to break the law,” said Weiner. Weiner further contested being labeled a “liberal.” “I am not a liberal; I am a fiscal conservative, a Libertarian, and a Social Progressive.”

What campaign finance records show that should concern voters about Josh Guy is the support he has received from two ultra-liberal politicians in St. Mary’s County. John Weiner, an active member of the far-left Democrat Party and former member of the Democratic Central Committee, provided $500 to Josh Guy’s campaign. Democratic Party bigwig Mike Whitson, a longtime player in the many Steny Hoyer campaigns, campaign manager of former Commissioner Joe Anderson, and contributor to every far-left Democrat over the past thirty years, fattened Josh Guy’s campaign with $200.

Former St. Mary’s Commissioner Republican Tom Jarboe, St. Mary’s City, contributed $500 to Guy’s school board campaign, while James H. Stone LLC gave Guy another $500. A substantial portion of his contributions came from many Guy family members. Jarboe, a defense contractor, is expected to be a candidate for the position of St. Mary’s Commissioner President in two years.

Another contributor to Josh Guy’s campaign, which provided him with $250, is a business entity, identified in the filing only as JBP & F LLC with an address in Charlotte Hall, Md. Maryland State Department of Assessments and Taxation reveals only that the LLC was organized and filed by La Plata attorney Stephen Scott. The resident agent was changed in 2023 to the law firm of Dugan, McKissick, and Longmore.
Josh Guy has clearly learned the art of finagling campaign donations from all sides of the political spectrum. If he wins, he will make a formidable candidate for public office in the future, either as a county commissioner or legislator.

Citizens for Matt Morgan contributed $250 to Guy on April 20th, and Howard Thompson contributed $50 the same day. A contribution of $250 from the campaign of Republican Delegate Matt Morgan (District 29A St. Mary’s County) was also made to Guy’s opponent, Brandie Edelen.

David Drys and Mary Washington both raised little money and spent little on campaign efforts, mainly on signs, lumber, and a few advertisements. It appears that Mary Washington forgot to put her authority line on some signs, which is really a rookie mistake one wouldn’t expect out of a candidate who brags that she has served for twenty-seven years and is the longest-serving member of any board of education in Maryland. When she was first elected in 1996, the affair in the Oval Office between Bill Clinton and Monica Lewinski was still a secret.
David Drys August report
Drys purports to be an experienced manager of budgets for large businesses, and if he wins on the paltry campaign effort he has put forward, the citizens of St. Mary’s County will be blessed to have him provide oversight over the budget of the public school system.
Teaching the Law of the Land to the Radical Teacher’s Union Activists and Cohorts
A Facebook page thread on Project 1776 questioned how anyone other than educational professionals should have a say in how students are taught. One response from Darcey Gray provided the following United States Supreme Court rulings that govern the matter.
20 USC § 3401 (3), parents have the primary responsibility for the education of their children, and States, localities, and private institutions have the primary responsibility for supporting that parental role.
United States Supreme Court rulings:
• Meyer v. Nebraska, 262 U. S. 390 (1923), stating “the power of parents to control the education of their own [children].”
• Pierce v. Society of Sisters, 268 U.S. 510 (1925), stating “the liberty of parents and guardians to direct the upbringing and education of children under their control.”
• Santosky v. Kramer, 455 U.S. 745 (1982), stating “the fundamental liberty interest of natural parents in the care, custody, and management of their child.” • Troxel v. Granville, 530 U.S. 57 (2000) stating “the Fourteenth Amendment protects the fundamental right of parents to make decisions concerning the care, custody, and control of their
