MURDER USA: Maryland State Police Arrest Jermaine Wilson for Slaying of Convicted Drug Dealer Tevin Deshawn Mumford

SALISBURY, MD – Maryland State Police served an arrest warrant and charged a 20-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting in Wicomico County that occurred in October.

The accused is identified as Jermaine Wilson, 20, of Princess Anne. Wilson is charged with first- and second-degree murder, attempted first and second-degree murder, and multiple criminal charges related to the fatal shooting. He is currently being held at the Caroline County Detention Center.

Shortly after 7:30 p.m., on October 28, 2024, troopers from the Maryland State Police Salisbury Barrack responded to the 800-block of West Road for a report of a shooting.

 Police report that troopers located Tevin Deshawn Mumford, 32 (DOB 09/19/1992), of 1008 Fairground Drive, Apt. 5, Salisbury, Maryland. He was transported by ambulance to TidalHealth Peninsula Regional, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Investigators learned an additional victim, identified as Ekoye Emmanuel Spates, 33, of Salisbury, Maryland, was transported by a bystander to TidalHealth and later transferred to Christiana Care Christiana Hospital in Delaware for treatment of his injuries.

Investigators from the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit responded to the scene and subsequently assumed the lead of the investigation.

A plaintiff sought a temporary protective order in a domestic violence case which was held before District Court Judge John P. Rue II on April 18, 2013.

In 2015, Judge S. James Sarbanes ordered that overdue child support would be held in abeyance due to Mumford’s incarceration on criminal charges and would resume once he was released from the Hoosegow.

Cambridge City Police Officer J. Beans arrested Mumford on January 17, 2017 for being a fugitive from justice from Delaware resulting him being held without bond in the Dorchester Sheriff’s Jail.

On October 6, 2021, Mumford entered a guilty plea to DWI in Somerset County Circuit Court before Judge Daniel W. Powell who sentenced him to sixty days in jail.

Teven D. Mumford was charged on March 26, 2024, by Wicomico Sheriff’s Department Deputy A. Bueno with two counts of assault and malicious property destruction. On June 25, 2024, Wicomico State’s Attorney placed the charges on the Stet Docket in a plea deal with Public Defender James Britt.

Mumford was sentenced to twelve years in prison when he pleaded guilty to dealing drugs before Judge Matthew Maciarello on February 2, 2022. In a plea deal, his sentence was suspended to serving only seventy-seven days in jail. Mumford was cited for violating the terms of his probation on July 26, 2024, and a probation report was due on November 22, 2024. The terms of his probation expired with his passing.

According to his obituary, Mumford worked at the McDonalds in Fruitland, Md., at the time of his murder.
