CONSULTANTS – St. Mary’s Board Hires Top Dollar Consultants to Do Work Overpaid LUGM Staff Can’t for Comprehensive Plan Update

The St. Mary’s County Board of Commissioners hired an out-of-state consulting firm, Clarion Associates, to come to town to push through a new comprehensive plan after three years of tomfoolery on the part of the director and staff of Land Use and Growth Management. These consultants are being paid over $14,000 a month. The commissioners hired a new LUGM director with no real land use experience and is a lawyer from LaPlata. St. Mary’s County already has three lawyers on the county payroll. The St. Mary’s Commissioner Board continues to hire a lobbyist in Annapolis to push the agenda of the Board even though the county has three delegates and a state senator in Annapolis to do the same thing. The good news is that there is an election next year. The new plan will ignore the changes made over the past 50 years that have tweaked, stretched, and revised the current plan, all with PUBLIC HEARINGS, and invariably will serve the developers and the tax-hiking plans of those who wish to transform St. Mary’s County into an extension of Howard, Anne Arundel, and Prince Georges, making the Mother County of Maryland another unbearable place to live.

What’s next for the plan after a rush of phony public hearings?
