Coast Guard rescues dad and daughter as their stranded tugboat began to take on water near Newport News, Va.

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Even when a vessel is stranded on a sandbar and can’t move, it can still sink. It all depends on the tide.

A Coast Guard aircrew hoists a man and his 10-year-old daughter from an aground 10-foot tugboat near Poquoson Flats off Newport News, Virginia, April 29, 2018. The MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter aircrew from Air Station Elizabeth City, North Carolina, launched concurrently with Station Cape Charles boat crews and other local agencies, who could not reach the two people due to the shallow water depth.
