LEONARDTOWN, MD. – Want to get a free pass from lazy prosecutors in Southern Maryland whenever one gets a hankering to smack the old lady around, drive drunk or sell drugs?  It’s easy, just become a C.I. (confidential informant) for one of the three Southern Maryland county’s States Attorneys and you can beat up the little woman, violate protective orders and skip jail when caught for DWI.

Maryland court records reveal that prosecutors in three counties of Maryland duck and run each time a St. Mary’s County man is arrested for driving under the influence of drugs. Rather than putting on a trial in court to prove the case of the arrests by officers in Charles, St. Mary’s and Prince George’s Counties, in each county, the prosecutors dropped the charges when the defendant hired an attorney. Only in one case did the accused serve any time and that was when he entered a guilty plea to the drug possession charge but still skated on the DWI-drug arrest.

More Domestic Violence

St. Mary’s Sheriff Tim Cameron reports that on March 20, 2020, St. Mary’s Sheriff’s Department Dep. John Fenwick responded to 25757 Long Woods Lane in Mechanicsville, Md., for the reported assault.  Sheriff Cameron reports that his investigation determined John Irvin Eberwein, 49, (DOB 12/30/1970) of Mechanicsville, assaulted the victim by grabbing the victim around the neck, causing visible injury.  There is a valid court order prohibiting Eberwein from being at the residence.  Eberwein was arrested and charged with Assault 2nd Degree and Violate Protective Order.

Bond hearings in District Court are held in secret without any electronic availability for the public or media to view the hearings electronically even though the technology is installed in court and jail computers.

On March 20, 2020, Maryland State Trooper Piscopo-Bann arrested John Irvin Eberwein on misdemeanor assault in the second-degree. On March 20, 2020, Eberwein was ordered held without bond by a District Court Commissioner and was released by an anonymous Judge on March 20, 2020. Bond hearings in District Court are held in secret without any electronic availability for the public or media to view the hearings electronically even though the technology is installed in court and jail computers.

Press representatives are allowed in Circuit Court hearings, however, health rules warning of death for those over 60 years of age require that such reporters risk their lives in order to report on bail bond hearings. These judicial hearings can result in the liberties of the accused being removed by the decisions of the judges and or the victims being murdered by the release of domestic abusers. Essentially, the hearings are held in secret without any information as to which Judge makes a decision posted on the Maryland Judiciary website – leaving the Judges without any accountability of their actions and decisions which can mean life or death. Another District Court hearing on this particular arrest has been set for May 5, 2020, in Leonardtown.

Court records show that on March 23, 2020, John Irvin Eberwein was deemed eligible for a free attorney paid for by the hapless taxpayers of Maryland; and that this serial abuser was allowed to be set free by a St. Mary’s County District Court Judge. Court records do not reveal online which of the Judges of the District Court allowed this fool to be set free on his own personal recognizance.

A keep away, protective order due to alleged domestic violence against John Irvin Eberwein was issued by a District Court Judge on March 20, 2020, and is in effect until March 29, 2021, should either Eberwein or his victim live that long. The order will expire upon either his death or that of his victim – which is a great possibility given the lunatic prosecutors and Judges of St. Mary’s County, Md., continuing to fail to keep this bozo behind bars. A final hearing date on the order has been set for April 14, 2020.

When arrested on Oct. 3, 2017, by St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department Deputy Daniel Holdsworth for failing to comply with a protective order on Sept. 25, 2017.  On Feb. 6, 2018, St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz gave a plea deal to Eberwein and put the violation of the protective order on the Stet Docket.

Maryland State Trooper Evan Page arrested John Irvin Eberwein on July 30, 2012, for violating a protective order. In St. Mary’s District Court, on Oct. 23, 2012, St. Mary’s States Attorney Richard Fritz, with the free public defender paid for by the Taxpayers of Maryland, entered into a plea deal. THE DEAL: Eberwein entered a guilty plea to the charge and received a verdict of Probation Before Judgment.

Maryland State Trooper John Pilkerton arrested Eberwein on April 1, 2010, a fitting arrest for April Fool’s Day, and charged him with second-degree assault. On Aug. 12, 2010, Fritz dumped the charge.

SPECIAL REPORT: What makes Maryland’s elected States Attorneys so eager to dump serious DWI-drug charges repeatedly for one person?

  1. John Eberwein is not getting a slap on the wrist nor are the States Attorneys scared to go to trial. He has been a confidential informant for 2 decades. When he gets arrested he works with the state to make 5 controlled buys of that counties drug dealers. His father is a retired State Police officer.
