While the feckless Maryland politicians Wes Moore and Brandon Scott trade barbs with President Donald Trump and parade a barrage of statistics about how new ‘initiatives’ are reducing the number of murders in Baltimore, this article is about one of the twenty people murdered in Baltimore City during July of 2025. The murder victim was selected at random to profile and remind everyone that each murder victim not only had a name, but also a life, family, and friends.

BALTIMORE, MD – After a call to Baltimore Police to check the welfare of a resident from a family member who had not been able to contact him, Eastern District officers who responded at about one o’clock in the afternoon on July 12, 2025, found that Keith Garrett was unresponsive, and medics determined he was dead. The Maryland Office of the Chief Medical Examiner decided that the cause of death was homicide from blows to his head.
Keith Allen Garrett, 60, was discharged from the Army with the rank of sergeant, where he had served as an intelligence officer, and returned home to Baltimore, where he purchased a home from Gloria Tilghman located at 2827 Chesterfield Avenue for $69,000 on October 31, 1997. On his deed, Garrett certified he was a first-time homebuyer in Maryland and that the house would be his principal place of residence.

On April 14, 1999, Garrett added his mother, Jean A. Garrett, to the deed of his home, where they held title of tenants in the entirety. In 2015, Baltimore City court records show that the loan Garrett had on his home was paid in full.

An examination of court records in Maryland shows that Garrett had no criminal interactions and only a few minor civil financial matters of a consumer nature, which were resolved.
In an interview with WBAL reporter Barry Simms, Garrett’s brother, Tommy Lightfoot Garrett, said his brother would give anything to someone who asked, and said a few items, and his brother’s wallet was missing when police discovered him.

“Since my brother died last month, I have been posting about it. For all of the complaints we have about Facebook, not only have I received wonderful support from most of you, but Meta has a new software that flags whenever someone posts about grief or depression, and while you are scrolling, it blocks what you are looking at and offers plans and advice for dealing with grief and depression and doesn’t allow you to navigate away from it until you click on advice for dealing with grief. I haven’t had any problems, but this could save lives. I’m very happy they have this new software.”

My father’s family’s cemetery in the Commonwealth of Virginia. My brother didn’t want a funeral, but we picked his spot. I talked my parents and brother out of having funerals years ago. My parents and I also won’t have any services. So, treat me the way you want now while I’m here to see it.

“I’m tough as nails, as they said in the South. But losing my only brother has been a rough time these past two weeks. My patience has been thin on foolishness. But each day seems mostly a little better than the previous day. Then a moment comes like a wave out of nowhere. I appreciate everyone who has been offering support and prayers. My parents are doing better as well. He was the nice, happy, trusting one. So, I’m trying to be good for him. Trying.“
