MURDER USA: Michael Mason, 16, Charged with Four Murders in DC Killing Spree

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Proving that the lives of recently murdered citizens of the District of Columbia matters, Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce arrest of a 16-year-old Michael Mason was made in reference to homicides and shooting offenses that occurred in the Fifth, Sixth and Seventh Districts.

Michael Mason, (DOB 03/10/2004) of 305 I Street SE, Washington, D.C., is charged with killing 31-year-old Terrance Griffin, 20-year-old Jaszel Henderson, 21-year-old Brea Moon, and 18-year-old Antwuan Roach. Moon lived in District Heights, Maryland. Griffin, Henderson, and Roach lived in Southeast D.C.

The warrant for Mason’s arrest reads: Michael Mason, a/k/a “YG”, within the District of Columbia, while armed with a firearm, purposely and with deliberate and premeditated malice, killed Brea Moon by shooting her with a firearm on or about April 7, 2020, thereby causing injuries from which Brea Moon died on or about April 7, 2020. (First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated), in violation of22 D.C. Code, Sections 2101, 4502 (2001 ed.))

On or about April 8, 2020, within the District of Columbia, Michael Mason, a/k/a “YG”, while armed with a firearm, assaulted A.W. (a minor of 14 years) with intent to kill him. (Assault With Intent To Kill While Armed, in violation of 22 D.C. Code, Sections 401, 4502 (2001 ed.)) Michael Mason, a/k/a “YG”, within the District of Columbia, while armed with a firearm, purposely and with deliberate and premeditated malice, killed Antwuan Roach by shooting him with a firearm on or about May 22, 2020, thereby causing injuries from which Antwuan Roach died on or about May 22, 2020. (First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated), in violation of 22 D.C. Code, Sections 2101, 4502 (2001 ed.))

Assault with Intent to Murder while Armed – Sixth District

On Saturday, April 8, 2020, at approximately 12:11 am, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Sixth District responded to the 300 block of Anacostia Road, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a juvenile male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Assault with a Dangerous Weapon – Fifth District

On Tuesday, April 28, 2020, at approximately 11:11 am, members of the Metropolitan Police Department’s Fifth District responded to the 1800 block of 24th Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Detectives’ investigation revealed that Mason discharged a firearm at the victim.

Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed – Seventh District

On Saturday, May 9, 2020, at approximately 7:10 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast, for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers canvased the area and located multiple casings and damage to property. The detectives’ investigation revealed the suspect discharged a firearm at the victim multiple times.

Homicide – Seventh District; Jaszel Henderson & Terrance Griffin both shot dead

On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at approximately 1:39 pm, members of the Seventh District responded to the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue, Southeast, for the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males and an adult female suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the two male victims displayed no signs consistent with life.

The victims remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The female victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. The decedents have been identified as 20-year-old Jaszel Henderson and 31-year-old Terrance Griffin, both of Southeast, DC.

Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed – Sixth District

On Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at approximately 5:09 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the 300 block of Anacostia Road, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Homicide – Sixth District; Antwuan Roach shot dead

On Friday, May 22, 2020, at approximately 4:50 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the 3800 block of East Capitol Street, Northeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an unconscious adult male, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined the victim displayed no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The decedent has been identified as 18-year-old Antwuan Roach, of Southwest, DC.

Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed – Sixth District

On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at approximately 1:19 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the 4400 block of Falls Terrace, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed – Sixth District

On Sunday, May 24, 2020, at approximately 1:48 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the 5100 block of Fitch Street, Southeast, for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males, both suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victims to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

On Wednesday, June 17, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 16-year-old Michael Mason, of Southeast, DC, was arrested. He has been charged as an adult, in each case above, with four counts of First Degree Murder while Armed, four counts of Assault with Intent to Kill while Armed, Assault with Intent to Murder while Armed, and Assault with a Dangerous Weapon.

Additionally, on Sunday, June 21, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 19-year-old Daquan Jones, of Northeast, DC, was transported to the Homicide Branch where he was charged with one count of First Degree Murder While Armed (Premeditated) in reference to CCN: 20-056-212.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia.
