Arrest Made in a Homicide of Latasha Estep: 1900 Block of Good Hope Road, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch announce an arrest has been made in a homicide that occurred on Saturday, August 8, 2020, inside of a residence, in the 1900 block of Good Hope Road, Southeast.

At approximately 8:00 am, members of the Seventh District responded to a residence at the listed location to conduct a welfare check. Upon arrival, an unconscious and unresponsive adult female, suffering from multiple puncture wounds, was located. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedent has been identified as 40-year-old Latasha Estep, of Southeast, DC.

The detectives’ investigation revealed that this offense was domestic in nature and occurred inside the residence.

On Saturday, August 8, 2020, pursuant to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant, 39-year-old Cory Lavene Brown of Southeast, DC, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed. At the time of his arrest, Brown was under the supervision of the Pretrial Services Agency for the District of Columbia for a domestic violence-related assault.

Homicide: 1900 Block of 6th Street, Northwest

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a homicide that occurred on Friday, August 7, 2020, in the 1900 block of 6th Street, Northwest.

At approximately 6:20 pm, members of the Third District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of life threatening injuries. After all life-saving efforts failed, the victim was pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as 30-year-old Rashad Scott, of Southeast, DC.

Suspect Identified in a 2002 Homicide: 4900 Block of C Street, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Cold Case Unit announce a suspect has been identified in a double homicide that occurred on Monday, August 12, 2002, in the 4900 block of C Street, Southeast.

At approximately 3:25 am, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two adult females, inside a vehicle, suffering from gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and determined that the victims displayed no signs consistent with life. The victims remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The decedents were identified as 18-year-old Ukea Davis, of Northeast DC, and 19-year-old Stephanie Thomas, of Southeast, DC. As the investigation progressed, it was learned by detectives that the decedents identified as females.

The detectives’ investigation determined that the suspect responsible for this offense was the victim of a homicide – shooting in the 4600 block of Benning Road, Southeast, on May 5, 2017. The suspect was identified as Michael Dupree Price, of Southeast, DC. Price was 36 years old at the time of his death.

Additional suspects may still be at large. This case remains under investigation.

The Metropolitan Police Department currently offers a reward of up to $25,000 to anyone that provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia. Homicide: 600 Block of 46th Place, Southeast

Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Homicide Branch are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, August 6, 2020, in the 600 block of 46th Place, Southeast.

At approximately 5:47 pm, members of the Sixth District responded to the listed location for the report of the sounds of gunshots. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male suffering multiple gunshot wounds. DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and found no signs consistent with life. The victim remained on the scene until being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

A second adult male was located at the scene, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. Additionally, a juvenile male walked into a local hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

The decedent has been identified as 26-year-old Michael Brittingham, of Northeast, DC.
