VIRGINIA STATE POLICE BEAT: James Hill headed for the hills, took a dip in a canal and was greeted by a K-9 dog
VIRGINIA BEACH, VA. – How fleet is a fleeing felonious dirtbag when he decides to outrun a Virginia State Trooper? In this case, not enough.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michelle Anaya reports that on June 28, 2018, at approximately 5:22 PM, a Virginia State Trooper attempted to make a traffic stop on a 2008 Jeep Cherokee for reckless driving by speed 83/55 mph. The offense occurred and was observed in the city of Virginia Beach in the westbound lanes of Interstate 264 at Lynnhaven Parkway. The driver refused to stop, and a traffic pursuit was initiated.
The Jeep exited the interstate at the Rosemont Road, turning onto Virginia Beach Boulevard, and continued until the driver reached Oconee Avenue where he stopped the vehicle in an apartment complex cul-de-sac. The driver then fled on foot and jumped into a nearby canal, swimming across to another adjoining neighborhood.
Virginia Beach Police Department was called to assist and a K9 unit tracked the suspect, locating him hiding in shrubbery.
The driver was identified as James Eric Hill, of the 1000 block of Ferry Plantation Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mr. Hill was charged with reckless driving in general, reckless driving by speed, felony evade and elude, and driving while revoked, among other violations.
