HOT STEAMED CRABS: Popular Seafood Carryout Total Loss Just as Crabbing Season Begins
LEXINGTON PARK, MD. – The popular Captain Pat’s Seafood, a longtime seafood house in Lexington Park that caters to the employees of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station was a total loss due to a fire blamed on a boiler malfunction, according to the Maryland State Fire Marshal.
The fire in Captain Pats was discovered by a passerby on Rt. 235 and reported at about 6:59 am on April 3, 2020. The restaurant, which enjoys a significant carryout business, is located at 21901 Three Notch Road in Lexington Park, Md., and is in a free-standing building that formerly housed a fast-food taco business.
The Maryland Fire Marshal set the loss to the structure at $200,000 and the contents at $100,000. No sprinkler system was present, says the fire investigator, but a smoke alarm was activated. The Bay District Volunteer Fire Department responded with fifty firefighters and controlled the fire in thirty-five minutes.
The 1500 square foot building is owned by Lexington Park developer Rachelle Millison, which was transferred to her by the late Larry Millison in 2005. The structure was built in 1985 and is zoned commercial.
