The Gloucester County Virginia Sheriff reports that on February 21, 2021, at approximately 8:40 pm, the Gloucester Sheriff’s Office initiated a traffic stop in the White Marsh area of Gloucester, Va.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Troix Craig Watkins of Waterview Drive, Newport News, Va.
Watkins initially stopped the vehicle and was made aware that he was considered a fugitive from Texas. Upon attempting to arrest Watkins on the outstanding charges from Texas, police say that he restarted his vehicle and fled the scene as deputies attempted to remove him from the seat.
As a result, deputies engaged in a vehicle pursuit and deployed “spike strips” in an effort to safely terminate Watkins’s ability to flee. The pursuit which started in Gloucester, Va., proceeded through York County onto I64 and into Hampton, Va., where it ultimately ended.
During the pursuit, Gloucester deputies were assisted by York County Sheriff’s Office, the Virginia State Police, and the Hampton Police Division. In the end, Watkins surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the vehicle, deputies discovered a loaded handgun. Warrants were obtained and executed on Watkins for DUI (3rd or subsequent offense), eluding, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and refusal. Fugitive from justice warrants was also served for the unrelated charges in Texas. Police say that there were no reported injuries as a result of this pursuit.
