DWI HIT PARADE: The Deadly Path of Tashya Johnson; awaits charges on killing a passenger in June busted for DWI in July, skated on DWI guilty plea in December of 2017
(Annapolis, MD) – A woman who is facing charges from a June crash and was originally held without bond was given bail and released from jail on July 3, 2018. As a result, her freedom could have cost the life of another when on July 7, 2018, at approximately 7:12 pm, the Maryland State Police report that Trooper First Class Holson was on patrol in the area of Jennifer Road and Medical Parkway when he observed a dipsy driver operating a red Hyundai with expired tags.
Police say that the operator of a red Hyundai failed to drive in a single lane and was unrestrained by a seatbelt. Trooper First Class Holson conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the operator, Tashya Katrina Johnson of 395 Valiant Circle, Glen Burnie, Maryland.
Police report that Johnsons’ Maryland Driver’s License was suspended. In addition, Trooper First Class Holson noticed that Johnson’s breath reeked of booze and he observed an open beer container in the center console – all of which were adding up to another trip to the slammer for this allegedly dangerously impaired driver.
Police say that due to her severe impairment, Johnson was unable to safely perform field sobriety tests and she was transported to the Anne Arundel Medical Center as a precautionary measure and refused to submit to a blood test.
Johnson was then transported to the District Court Commissioner where she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while impaired by alcohol, driving on a suspended driver’s license, reckless driving, negligent driving, and numerous other traffic-related charges. Johnson was held on no bail and transported to the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
Johnson took her favorite drugs to the slammer
On July 8, 2018, at approximately 1200 hours, Officer Russell of the Anne Arundel County Detention Center contacted the Maryland State Police Annapolis Barrack to advise that Johnson was found to be in possession of 0.3 grams of suspected marijuana. An application of charges was completed for Johnson charging her with possession of contraband in a place of confinement and possession of CDS while detained in a place of confinement. The Anne Arundel County District Court Commissioner issued a criminal summons and was served on July 8, 2018, at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.
Johnson was the operator of a Mercury Grand Marquis that was involved in a single-vehicle collision that resulted in the death of a passenger on June 22, 2018. Police say that collision is still under investigation and charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
The Anne Arundel County States Attorney filed charges of reckless endangerment and felony first-degree assault in Anne Arundel District Court on June 29, 2018. Taxpayers will be joyful to learn that they are footing the bill for her free attorney from the Public Defender’s Office – which actually defends persons accused of crimes and does not defend the public. Defending the citizens of Maryland from dirtbags like Johnson is the job of Anne Arundel County States Attorney Wes Adams. The arresting officer in the case is Anne Arundel Police Officer M. Levere.
On May 22, 2018, Johnson was charged with failing to attend driver improvement school and driving while suspended by Anne Arundel Police Officer Hickox as she drove a 2013 Hyundai Sonata on Oak Manor Road at Shetlands Lane.
On July 11, 2018, a bench warrant was issued for Johnson for failing to appear for yet another charge of driving while revoked on March 5, 2018, by Anne Arundel Police Cpl. Kevin King.
Anne Arundel County States Attorney Wes Adams gave Johnson a sweet plea deal on a DUI charge when she was arrested by Anne Arundel Police Officer Teare on Oct. 10, 2017, at 2:32 am. Johnson pleaded guilty to DWI on Dec. 11, 2017. THE DEAL: Johnson was given Probation Before Judgement, paid no fine and did no time with one year of probation. Her probation was violated on June 28, 2018, with her crash that killed a passenger.
