MURDER USA: PG Police say Wintrell Phillips killed roommate then shot self to death
LANHAM, MD. – This is one murder that won’t play out for a long time. Prince George’s County Police report that the Homicide Unit is investigating a murder-suicide in Lanham.
Police say that the victim, in this case, is 48-year-old James McCall. The deceased suspect is Wintrell Aniko Phillips, 31, (DOB 12/09/1988) of 10200 Diablo Avenue in Lanham, Md.
PG Police say that on March 20, 2020, at approximately 4:00 pm, patrol officers responded to Diablo Avenue for the report of a shooting and found Phillips in front of the home holding two guns.
Police say that the officers gave verbal commands for the suspect to drop his weapons; but instead of complying, the suspect ran to the side of the house.
Officers then heard the sound of shots and Phillips was located suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Officers then discovered McCall inside of the home where he was pronounced dead on the scene.
Phillips died on March 21, 2020, at a hospital.
Police say that McCall had recently moved into the home where the Phillips also lived.
Detectives are working to establish a motive in this case.
